I'm looking to buy a new amplifier. I can't find any of the above in a store near me and I was hoping that someone could point me in the correct direction on this one.. The choices for amps are:

57 Bandmaster
57 Delux Head
57 Tube Reverb Head

Here is what I like..
the 57 Bandmaster sounds great on the videos that I have seen online. I think I like the 10" speakers rather than 12" cones. This amp is rated at 26 watt. It seems like the clean sound is as clean as I can find! I think with the right pedals, I could build the sound to where I want it to be. If this came as a head unit and cabinet, I would have no questions, I would order it and be done!

The 57 delux head: I LOVE that this is a head unit, it sounds good, but the matching speaker is not what I want at all. Additionally, its a 12 watt head. Im stating that as a fact, because I have no point of reference on this one. Right now, I am playing Marshall 15 watt solid state, and I keep the volume at about 4. The matching cab has a 12" celestion and is a little more muddy sounding than I want (hot rod delux 112). Is this too under-powered?

The 57 Tube Reverb Head: The video for this is a reverb and delay filled nightmare that isnt related to the kind of music that I play in any way at all. I DO intend to use Reverb, just not as much as the video uses LOL. (for the bandmaster, I would just use a pedal). I like that this is a head unit, I dont like the matching cab (hot rod delux 112)..

Any thoughts or ideas? This is my first tube amp purchase..

thanks!

The "57 Tube Reverb Head" is not an amplifier at all. It's a stand-alone reverb tank that must be used in conjunction with a conventional amplifier. Tweed cosmetics aside, it's identical to the 6G16 that was first issued in the early '60s and popularized by legions of surf bands.

I never choose a amp by video, it is a MP3 on your PC speakers, how is the sound take from a microphone , what kind of guitar ?

And many more questions.

Well, there are no retailers for any of the listed amps anywhere near me. The best I have is what I mentioned.

Very true. You might think an amp sounds great in the video but you have no idea of what the volume is in that room to achieve that tone.

Fwiw I recently tried a 57 Bandmaster in the store. I was unimpressed with the tone at moderate volume. I found it to sound thin with too much high end. It's the type of amp that probably has to be cranked to really shine.

I understand the idea of playing it before you buy it, and the pitfalls of youtube etc. As I mentioned earlier, there are no stores in my area that carry these particular amps.. Im willing to drive up to NYC if anyone can tell me where to go!

Also, while I agree that the room condition is important to take into account, my house doesn't have a stitch of carpeting (most guitar stores are covered wall to wall). We have one piano in a different room, and I don't have 3000 guitars hanging on the wall. I also have one fluorescent fixture in the laundry room and none in the living areas.. like most people, my house is the exact opposite of a music shop.

I wish there was an easier way to do this, but it looks like I will need to find an upscale store, make the trek and hope for the best.. :(

I am just wondering why you are intrigued by these high end Custom Fender amps. Please don't get me wrong. The thing is, Fender offers so many far less expensive tube amps that have the ultimate clean sound, reverb, tremolo, power etc. Have you tried a DRRI, TRRI, Super Reverb, Bassman, Vibrolux, Princeton, Hot Rod series or Bassbreakers? Check them out. The amps you are looking at are not in stores because they are expensive boutique type amps. As you have stated, you have only heard Youtube demos. A 12 watt Custom Deluxe head with no effects is $1,900US. In that range, there is so much more (Fender and others). I'm just trying to understand and help.

Yes, these are the insanely priced ones.. But they are also the ones that when something goes wrong (and it will), can be repaired and not just tossed in the trash. If you burn out a circuit board, the landfill is the next stop.. If you blow out a hand wired amp, most times, a good amp tech can repair it.

This doesn't mean that all regular amps are a problem.

I had a onkyo home surround receiver (solid state) and the board blew.. They repaired it once under warranty.. And it lasted another 6 months..

I'm sure people on this group are going to pounce all over me for this one. I mean no offense and however you are going to refute me, I'll defer to your knowledge base.

I believe that you're maybe just overthinking it a bit. There's no reason that the other amps can't be serviced by a competent tech. And all Fender amps have a 5 year warranty - that's about 10x better than most home electronics! They have lots of great quality amps in their line. The top of the line ones you mentioned are priced that way only because the boards are hand assembled which is catering to a boutique trend and compete with smaller amp makers who are making clones on par with Fender's greatest years.

I'll tell you this - I just picked up a Vibro King because it was a wicked deal. It had never left the store's showroom but it had a factory defect in that the Vibrato (Tremolo) was giving an audible ticking sound. It had to go out to the local authorized service tech and it spent about two months there before it came back *mostly* fixed. So even a hand wired amp with a $4000 price tag hanging off of it still is no guarantee it will be defect free out of the box.

For the price point you're shopping, you could easily own a vintage (ie: "real") Fender amp.

And NOBODY is throwing these in the trash.

Ever.

Sure somebody can tell you where to go and Google too. Any Guitar Center in NY ?

Wrong, I rarely see music store like that and I see hundreds

For those in America... I'd be into a real fender vintage amp.. Sam ash isn't going to carry that, guitar center isn't going to carry that.. That's all we have around here.. The two big box stores that sell what most people want.
