Well... If you are good at soldering. And parts are available... this VC maybe a nice project:

The $200 for your mod is a lost money.
If you have no experience in soldering don't start with that project

I agree with you about the money not being an upgrade, but still believe when the time comes it will be beneficial for long term maintenance.

I can solder, that's not a bad bid price now. What's with the 55lbs shipping weight? Is that the upper limit or something for the USPS. Appreciate the link.

I can't imagine a 55-lb Vibro Champ. Mine weighs a skosh more than twelve pounds.

This item will ship in a a carton weighing approximately 55 lbs and measuring 42 x 26 x 14 inches originating from Boulder Colorado 80305.
From the private listing, dunno the seller....hesitant to say the least.

I'd call that a clear-cut case of overpacking in order to pad the S&H charges.

Good Lord, an Anvil case would only double the 12-lb weight of the amp! And it would provide a damn sight more transit protection than a cardboard carton stuffed with peanuts.

Uranium popcorn!

Or this HUGE box in a box, in another box, in even another box. With a tiny little amp in the middle. Think the shipping addendum was put on wrong auction. Maybe? ;)

I couldn't say but I remember my '68 drip-edge silverface Deluxe Reverb with its OEM Oxfart speaker only weighed 57 lbs in the shipping box with all of the packing and padding.

Fair price for the VC in the link above.

Spent most of my available funds on DMM, BiasTester and three reference books.

I'm still looking though; the 62' Concert was scooped up w/in a couple days of the $ reduction.

Amp deals are like city buses......

If you miss it, no sweat. Another one will be along in twenty minutes.

   Were the original Oxfords bad? I know the "Oxford-style" ten-inchers in my '63-reissue Vibroverb definitely weren't in the "awesome" category.

Most 63RI Vibroverberators (owners of the 63RIVV...and yes, I coined the term) agree that the stock speakers were the weakest and worst component of an otherwise amazing amp.

Oxfords were always a "second-tier" speaker when compared to Jensens but up until early 1966 didn't sound too bad. That was the year that FMI's CBS overlords insisted upon increased production numbers to meet the demand as they ramped up to build higher numbers of amps. To meet this demand, Oxford's original specs were tossed under the bus as they cranked out more speakers. OTOH Jensen refused to knuckle under to William Paley et al and they were eventually dropped as a supplier to Fender around the spring of 1967.
