I'm thinking about picking up a Blues Jr III, I'm wondering if I'll go crazy without an effects loop. I love running a delay pedal, but I'm wondering how it will sound in front of the amp.
What's the next model up that would give me the effects loop? Looking for something with great cleans and something that breaks up fairly easily. But something that won't break the bank!

Effects loops are not usually designed for floor pedals (rack mount effects are the general use). You may find your pedal sounds better before the amp (and tone stack).

That would be the Hot Rod Deluxe. It has an effects loop, 2 channels, great cleans, and with the right tube combination, the drive channel can sound great also. I agree that you probably won't miss the effects loop if you go with a Blues Junior ( I have both amps :D)

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.

Nice concise article. To be more concise, if a pedal is non-time based (distortion or wah wah) it usually sounds best when placed between the guitar and amp input. Time based effects (reverb, echo or delay) often sound best when placed in the effects loop. This goes for pedals or rack mounted effects.

If echo or delay is part of your sound, best get an amp with the efx loop.

YMMV
