I'm an enthused learning guitarist at 49 years young. I have an '04 American Deluxe Stratcoaster in Candy Apple Red and am awaiting arrival of a '13 Brand New Blues Jr. Butterscotch Woody Amp. I am wondering if anyone can direct me to a resource for setting amp. controls for various music/songs? Please and Thanks - Bob

Your ears will lead you. Turn the controls on the amp to discover just what they do and how to get the sound you want from your personal instrument, room you play in and how your hands relate to sounds produced. There is no "written in stone" setting guide. Specific sounds you can give as an example might help someone get you "close" to and you will have to trim controls from there.

Yeah Jon A said it. Adjust bass to taste and trebble too. Also add some effects pedals like a digitech obscura and polara (to be name specific, just because I bought them) , you'll have some spacy jazz tones with the Jenson AlNiCo P12Q thats stock on the woodies.

Really I got to say, you got a couple of choice Fender products, with the American Deluxe Strat and a Limited Edition Fender amp. Keep the Woody and think of some upgrades in the future like a Fender ML 6L6 212 Deville.

Use the Volume and Master to set the amp for clean or distortion. Volume maxed gives more preamp distortion, adjust Master for desired volume. Master maxed and volume low gives clean sound, but as you turn up the Volume, the sound gets more distorted.

I want to thank everyone for the advice. Unfortunately, the "woody" arrived damaged when I unboxed... Thanks FedEx, ...Not! Long story short it is going back under sellers insurance. Now on the hunt for a replacement. Looking at a Blues Jr. Red Sparkle and Wine/Tan face Blues Jr. with Cannabis Rex Speaker. Does anyone have any thoughts on which version I should go with and why? Please and Thanks.

Why not just go with a standard Blues Junior for a start and see how you get on? If you feel that you ultimately want to change the speaker, or something else, you will have come to that conclusion based on a foundation of your own experience. It could be you are happy with the standard and don't need to shell out on the more exotic versions. It might be you don't get on with the amp at all and end up looking elsewhere, in which case a standard version will have a larger market in which to unload.

+1 on all counts.

Sonically, there is no difference between the LE and standard Blues Junior amp save for an alternate speaker which in any case you may not like.

Guys, Thanks for the thoughts. Trying to avoid making a mistake and not being happy to the point of needing to change a speaker right off. I've done a lot of listening on YouTube and heard a standard played in a local shop. To me the standard sounds tinny, not as full and less desirable than that of these other versions. Unfortunately, the local stores don't seem to have standards and FSR models to side by each compare in person. I think I'm leaning towards the Wine Red Jr. with the Canabis Rex speaker. It's the same price point as the Standard yet user reviews indicate a cleaner warm tone that I prefer. Thanks Again.

I wouldn't put any credence at all in a youtube video played on crappyass computer speakers. None whatsoever.

I also heard the standard version being played live in a local shop. Where the price point is the same on the Canabis Rex equipped version I will order as too me it has the warmer full tone I think I am looking for. I can always swap around if I don't like it. I stand a better chance IMHO going with what I like for tonality up front. Thanks Again!

^ This! ^

I tried a few speakers in my BJr, and the CRex made the most difference. It sounded so different that I had to put some lower gain tubes in to keep it from breaking up so early. Now, I can go from clean to grit just by changing pick attack. Absolutely marvelous sound, and very responsive. The CRex and BJr are made for each other. :D

The C-Rex is a fine speaker, one of Emi's best. Their Texas Heat provides a similar vibe.

Yes! I have 2 Texas Heats in a 4x12 cab, they do sound good themselves, or paired with a couple of Red, White & Blues.

The new limited run Wine/Tweed Blues Jr. arrived and I absolutely Love it. Tones are incredibly warm and amazing.
