Hey All,

I have read lots of issues with hiss but mainly from more then a year ago. Some issues fixed with tube replacement and others fixed with returning the amp for a new one.

Is there an inherent hiss issue with this amp as I want to MIC this amp but not if there is a hiss problem that I will run into.

Thanks for any info on this

Mark

Last week mine was replaced as it developed hiss after less than a week. The replacement, so far, has been excellent. Of course I have only played this one for five days.

Fender hiss problems in general - About a year ago, I bought a brand new 65 Twin Reverb Reissue. From day one, it hissed; nothing plugged in and everything turned to zero. These are not supposed to hiss. Before shipping it back, I reviewed this forum for possible answers and was always directed to the tubes. I learned the tube test of pulling each preamp tube one at a time to see if any tube position, with tube pulled, would stop the hiss. I was sceptical, but did the test. Position V4 was the culprit and after switching tubes with V1, the problem was solved. I was very happy indeed as I never can fix anything. Nine months later, a different problem occurred and after testing, V4 was the problem again. This time I replaced all 12AX7 tubes with Tung-Sols and the amp has never sounded better. Moral of story - Fender stocks their new amps with crappy Groove Tubes. I'm convinced that this is the cause of many of the problems encountered with new Fender amps. Before shipping any amp back, check the tubes. I may have a problem with V4 and time will tell. Also, the SS amps may have other problems and someone else can chime in. Too long a story, but maybe it will help someone.

I have plenty of 12AXT Ruby tubes for this or any other amp so I am not concerned if it is a tube problem, rather if it is a circuit design issue that causes the HISS>

+1

The remainder of the issues usually arise as a result of that crappy RoHS-compliant solder.
