I'm thinking of getting a Fender Super Champ X2. It's got a dial for 16 different programmable sounds which is really sweet. What isn't sweet is that the 16 are not foot switchable. Would it be possible to pull leads off of the switch circuitry to break out into wires for 16 foot switches? I'd have to hire someone to to the MOD but is it possible?

SIXTEEN FOOTSWITCHES?

This ought to be good.

You would have to hire Michael Flatly to dance on all of those footswitches.

This isn't exactly what you describe, but it's similar. Might give you some ideas about what's possible. The schematic for the X2 is available on-line (do a google search).

Hmmm. There are 99 presets on a G-DEC 30! Gonna need pointed toe cowboy boots to push the buttons

Yes. You absolutely can do that.
You need another 4 pole encoder like the one in your amp, mounted in a footswitch, With a really BIG knob.
I suppose It could also be mounted similarly to a Crybaby if you really wanna sweep.
The way these encoders are wired, all the outputs are hardwired in parallel.
Only the Common terminal is different between the two existing encoders. Voice and Eff Select.
I think this means that you only need to switch the Common terminal of the Voice encoder to the Common of a parallel wired floor mounted encoder.
It should work with a 6 pin ribbon cable. No shielding needed. Now if you could only find a 6 pole connector with an internal switch, you'd be stylin'
I would guess that other models with encoders could have these kinds of mods added as well,
Come to think of it, you could probably program a little Arduino to give you an up/down function.
Good luck

Thanks TimsAudio! That's what I was looking for. I'll probably give your post to an electronics guy and get a quote.

Which will likely be twice the price you paid for the amp.

I'm not so sure. I'm thinking around $300ish. Of course I'm getting the amp for $275 from the store I teach at.

I know it's digital, but in this case, it's not that complicated. Parts are within reason and there is no fancy digital design. It's just wiring in a parallel switch. A fancy switch to be sure, but just a switch.
The encoder should be less than 10 bucks.
A single button footswitch for conversion is 25 or so.
The cable can probably made from cat5 network cable. Its cheap and moderatele flexible.
An spdt switch is a coupls bucks. This should be mounted in the rear.
A 6 pin chassis connector will raise the cost, but mostly for the labor to mount it. I would just hardwire it in.
The diodes and resistor for the new encoder are a few cents each.
I've done a few of these external switch type mods. As lond as you're working with low voltage digital signals, it's pretty easy. My favorite mod of this type was to wire the lower keys of a keyboard into a set of footpedals from an old organ for a one-man-band.

For me the expensived part is paying someone to do it that won't screw it up like I would.

Well, the digital aspect of the project means that you might find a computer guy to do it for less than a guitar tech.
I would start by procuring the encoder and switch and testing the concept before buying the footswitch etc, just to give you the confidence to invest in the rest of the parts.
