Hey guys!

I got a volume problem on my BDRI. Channel 1 is EXTREMELY loud. It used to be able to play somewhat quiet (okay for indoors), but now it seems there's a problem with volume control and it's nothing or too loud. Input/channel 2 is more or less normal. I am wondering what it is which is causing this problem.

Some background on what caused this situation. I got a Blues Deluxe Reissue (BDRI) and to tame it, I bought an attenuator. To hook up the attenuator between the amp and the speaker, I needed two extra speaker cables. I got these custom made from a local shop, but when I hooked everything up, I got almost no sound. When I turned up the amp, I heard a quiet, VERY distorted, crackling guitar sound. I played around with this for a while, trying to locate the problem when I figured it might be the cable. I borrowed a new cable from a friend and everything seemed to work.

.. Except that it seems the amp has taken a beating. I've lost most of the volume control of channel 1 which now seems incapable of playing at reasonable volumes. I can tame it still with my attenuator, but I'm actually worried about playing it at all as I worry it might further destroy any components.

I have a full set of tubes ready for replacing, but I wanted to ask you fender gurus here first. If it's not a tube problem, I don't want to risk damage my new tubes.

What's up with my amp?

The volume pot's leg to ground is not soldered.

A good check on your amp solders.

The strange thing is that the second input (at -6 db) seems to be working. Doesn't that rule out problems with the volume pot?

It a new information , check your input jack if broken , solder broken on printed circuit

Look is not your pot with what you say now.

If input 2 work fine , it could be only the input 1 jack and one 65 K ( R2 ) resistor between jack and circuit .

All the amp's circuit is same for both inputs .

Check solder

In any case, I assume this is not a problem that is going to burn out a set of new tubes and so swapping tubes should be safe?

+1

Also, check input 1's matching resistor for the correct value and any possible anomalies. It might not be a bad idea to clean the jack itself as well.
