Ok so I just turned my Hot Rod Deluxe III on today to practice and it started making this ghastly hissing and cracking sound despite the volume being turned down to zero and no guitar even plugged in!

This is how it sounds: https://soundcloud.com/user-468854103/fender-hot-rod-deluxe-iii-16-dec-15

Amp is just a year and a half old has had almost zero use in my living room and I already had to replace the 3 12AX7 valves a month ago..

How to fix this please? :(

PS: I don't see how this can be age related or wear and tear as it's hardly just over a year old, it's remained in one spot in my living room since the day I bought it, never been gigged and the volume never been passed 2 as this thing is so loud.

First thing I try ;

Remove all tubes and clean their contacts , chance is if you just unplug and plug them this will clean contacts enough to remove the noise .

If noise after that , remove tubes V1 , listen , if noise remove V2 ........

Did you mean to remove the valves while the amp is on?

Removing the power valves one at a time (with amp off) and and then replacing them made no difference. Awful noise still present.
Removing the smaller 12AX7EH valves one at a time did not help as the absence of any of them seemed to just kill the entire circuit making the amp silent.

How did any of that help exactly?

Phew!.. Sorted it. It was a single faulty ECC83 valve. So relieved.

Some Amps have the Heater Circuit wired series like the old Xmas Light sets. Pull one tube and they all go out!. Didn't think the HDRX was wired that way. The Peavey Classic and Valvekings are series.

No always switch OFF

I understand if you remove V1 , the one close at input jacks, the noise stop .
This mean noise is coming from this tube or from this circuit or all thing plug in the amp but nothing is plug to the amp input !

How did any of that help exactly?

You may have a bad solder in power supply rail and /or circuit .
If you do the test as you write and as I understand, or tubes sockets contacts are dirty ....

glad you found the answer~

one thing I've found on my tube amps is:
CRACKLE / SIZZLE sound seems to be preamp tube(s)

LOW HUM (almost sounds like a neighbor is mowing yard) = power amp tube(s)
