I just purchased a Champion 40 and am quite satisfied with the performance. However, I would like to change the speaker to a JBL or Jensen, to get a better output and tone. Can anyone suggest which one I should go for ? If not JBL or Jensen....a Celestion maybe....or any other ? Your suggestions and/or views please. By the way, I am in India and the availability is limited. Thanks.

A good speaker may worth the price of the amp :(

If you think to keep the amp many years , why not .

Wich one , not Jensen .

Look for Eminence , Celestion .......

+1

Especially in the case of a JBL!

A Celestion Vintage 30 *may* provide some sonic improvement.

Congratulations on the amp. I like Jensen's MOD series of speakers. I also like Eminence and Warehouse (WGS). Depends what kind of sound you are after to some extent. What kind of music are you playing?

About speaker, why 12 inches Celestion Gold have only 4 holes ? It can't fit in Fender's amp witch use 8 bolts.
A friend would like to try one. :(

10 inches Celestion Gold have 8 holes !!! :?:

Thanks for your suggestions. Looking for Em or JBL, if I can get one, here. Will post the improvement, if any, when the change takes place. Thanks again friends.

Eminence Man O War (GT-75 clone) is a good choice.

I just got one of these amps for a bang around and studio amp. I tried four speakers in it, plus the stock speaker. The speakers I tried were an Eminence Swamp Thang, Eminence Texas Heat, Eminence C-Rex and an old Peavey Scorpion Commercial Duty..

I ended up just using the stock speaker and I think once it breaks in, for lower levels it will work just fine..

All of the other speakers seemed to bring out the hiss a lot more..

This thing works great as a stereo setup with my other tube amps and a Radial ABY. Just plug and play, easy stuff..

I did find that putting a Joyo Jf-10 Dynamic Compressor in your chain, it makes that amp very usable tonewise..

I am thinking of getting another one and use them both as a studio stereo rig..

Save a little wear and tear on my Twin Reverb stereo rig and my ears..

Likely due to their superior efficiency and enhanced HF response.

Having read all suggestions, I feel I should hang on to the in-built speaker for a while. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

One thing I am going to do to my Champion 40 is add a 1/4" jack to the chassis that will allow me to hook up an ext. cab.. That thing sounds pretty good going into a good cab. The stock speaker seems to be rounding out a bit more as I play it and probably after I hook it up to a mp3 player and run it a couple of days at volume, it will be good to go.

I have a lot of Fender tube amps and I have a/b'd this thing against them and at lower volumes and I think it is going to work fine in a recording situation, but not at gig levels. It works well with every pedal I have thrown at it so far and it is a lot less picky than my tube amps. A compressor in front of the Champion makes a huge difference and my 12ax7 tube boost really gives it some girth.

The Champion is pretty hard to beat for the low price and quality you can get in tone. Most of my pedals cost more than this thing... I have had two Mustang V's and a Mustang Floor, I like the simplicity of the Champion 40 over them for the application I am using it for, which is mostly low level recording and sound reinforcement by daisy chaining it from tube amps..

I had to set some books on top of that Champion 40 to keep it from floating off of the ground because it so light..
