Comparing notes here, what tubes came stock in your super sonic 22`s? is my big question here today!

hi~
bought SS22 new, came with 6V6-R's matched GT's (6 - white)
as far pre, I am not very sure....but I think GT's as well, I def remember the 12AT7 being GT
-----------------------
this amp loves to make tubes rattle, as most combos will -
after using the amp to play out with, I found the clean channel tone almost more important to me.
So, I got some JJ's in there and re-biased. I find it gives me a bigger bottom and chimey clean. I use some EH's for preamp. IF the amp was handwired and quiet, I'd prob put some vintage g.e. tubes or something. But with the drummer wailing and cymbals and all, I'm good with the way it is. It sounds great live. I wish my 5E3 was a lil louder, I get to use it when we play smaller areas....I'd like to get a 5E5-A, it's give more headroom than the 12W 5E3.

The issue lies not with the amp but with the mediocre quality of most contemporary tubes.

I did bite the bullet and bought the JJ anti rattle tubes, of course I don't know if that is true or just a come on, because I also bought the Eurotubes anti rattle rings for the power tubes at the same time, for four years or so I have not heard a single rattle out of my Hot Rod Deluxe.

I do not play it every day, nor do I play it all that loud. I just play it enough to keep all the gizmos inside working properly. I play it every two weeks or so for 6 or so days of my daily practice routine just to keep it charged up.

+1 on the tubes today.... no wonder ALOT of the new tubes I buy rattle. You hear it too by just lightly tapping tube when it comes out of box, it has a loose rattle like sound. I have all VOS & NOS inside my 5E3, they are great!

I just got the RINGS for the tubes on my SS22, works pretty good.
I play my SS22 on 5, so it's pretty loud. Alot of vibrations....

Of the new production tubes I find both Tung-Sol and TAD to be of consistently high quality.

And they sound good too!
