I need to re-tension the power tube/springs/octal sockets on my Prosonic. They are very loose. While the gentle art of the re-tension itself feels like something I can do, I am unsure of how exactly the amplifier should be discharged and, therefore, if I should just pay to have a tech do it.

I've read that the "unplug the power cord while the amp is powered on" trick will work. But I can't rely on some dude's blog to know for sure. Is a more proper discharge of the caps necessary from within the amp? Something else?

The re-tensioning itself seems like such an easy task to complete, but I would prefer to not get killed or maimed preparing for it, though going out via Fender amp would be a nice way to go.

Unplug the power cord , put stanby switch in "play "position and wait at least 24 hours . Forget power switch.

Use a well insullated tool to work on the pins . One hand only , the other hand in your pocket , not on amp steel chassis .

Sometime pin's connector are tight with the tubes pins but they move on the socket . This is normal .

I have a couple of dental picks that I've adapted for this purpose by re-shaping the business end with a dremel tool. Be sure to observe the safety protocols as mentioned by Stratele.
