My DRRI blew a fuse today. I replaced the fuse and it blew again. The amp is 5 1/2 years old. Should I start with a set of new tubes? What else could cause this issue?

You may need new output power tubes . One or both is short .

Another test you can do is ;

1- Remove both output tubes and put a new fuse .
2- Power amp ON .
a- If fuse don't blow , you need new power tubes
b- If fuse blow you need to see a qualified tech . There is a problem in the amp

You must put same kind of fuse , no more powerfull, never .

With new tubes you need a bias check . You may no need a bias check ( not 100% sure ) if you put exactly same brand of tubes

In addition to this excellent suggestion, you may want to check the idle bias draw. If the output tubes or rectifier don't blow the fuse.

My money's on the GZ34 rectifier as the culprit......

You guys are great. I took out the power tubes, replaced the fuse, turned on the amp and had no problems. Thanks guys. Last question, if I replace the tubes with the same kind of tubes how important is it to re-bias the amp?

Bias how important ? If it is easy for you to bring the amp to a qualified tech you know is good, yes do the bias .

If no , put exactly the same brand of tubes and forget bias .

The power tubes and rectifier was replaced. The amp sounds fantastic once again. Thanks all for the correct advice.

The only test I did was take the power tubes and rectifier tube out, put a new fuse in I turned the amp on. The fuse did not blow. The person who fixed my amp is a friend, and is extremely reputable. He has his own high end guitar and amp business in Cleveland. He can build and repair amps. About the only thing I know about amps is how to turn them on and off. I wanted to know what I had in store for my amp repair by using a simple test, which you provided me with. I am grateful for the help I received by you and other Forum members regarding my amp problem. That's why I love this Forum.

you may do not need new rectifier tube ,it last very long time . Or you may not need Output Power tubes .

Did you know if you remove rectifier tube , there is no voltage feeding the amp , sure fuse will not blow .

I ' m desapointed you do not follow trouble shout I write ,
