I am trying to figure out what's going on with my new (used) Fender Excelsior. I'm new to the tube amp world, so it could be pretty obvious... but what do I know? The amp has a 6 month warranty from the shop where I bought it, I want to have a clue what might be going on before I take it back for another warranty service... (by the way - I had their technician service it before I took it home, and he rebuilt the volume pot and re-soldered a bunch of connections at that time).

I shot a 1 minute video of the problem and posted it to youtube:
https://youtu.be/AXFEIzjJeos

For the first half of the video I've got the tremolo on, which I think hides the problem. You can really hear the issue in the last 10 seconds of the video.

Here's the situation in words - it seems to play fine, and then out of the blue it jumps to a higher volume with more distortion (not nice distortion). I would think the problem is a tear in the speaker, but because there's a volume change involved, and because it only happens intermittently, I feel like it must be a faulty wire, bad solder, or a tube problem...

Any hints would help me when I bring it back to the shop where I bought it. Thanks!

I listen the video . Sound is poor from the beginning to the end.....Tremolo is very noisy

A complete check up by a qualified tech is require .

It could be tubes , solder , connections , tubes socket contact , speaker

Good luck

Thanks stratele52 for the reply - I know I've got to go to the shop and ask for the technician to give it another try. I was just hoping to have some clues before going so that I wouldn't just hand it over and say "it sounds wrong."

But I re-watched the video and yeah -- it isn't going to help anyone as a diagnostic tool...

Thanks anyway!

You don't need to say more to a qualified tech , , he must find . Nobody here can tell you which part to replace or solder to fix ...
