If the output is set to cathode-biased, Class "A" --- the 6L6GC and EL34 are prolly interchangeable. AS LONG AS the amp does not utilize the suppressor grid in it's circuit (pin 1 is active).

+1

And an additional toggle switch is all that would be required to facilitate such a tube-swap capability.

Update: I squinted, bit a bullet real hard and pulled the trigger,
and ordered this:
http://www.soultrampamps.com/?page_id=64

He is going to evaluate the amp with KT77's and let me know how it sounds. I'll either be getting 6L6's or the KT77's. One thing the web page doesn't mention, is this amp now has a $@!&# control which raises or lowers the mid point of the tone stack, so the tone stack can emulate either a Fender or Marshall range. I think this is going to be a killer amp for me. Thanks for all of your help.

That's totally weird. The forum is editing the word S-L-O-P-E. Why would it do that?

Prolly from the incident that happened on Top Gear BBC show with Jeremy Clarkson. Mentioning that term in an episode in SouthEast Asia. Maybe on YouTube.

Anyhow, the KT-77 is an excellent tube. The new GL KT-77 has gotten rave reviews on Marshall and hi-fi boards.

Think are going to have a sweet amp. Be interesting to hear the head through a 2 X 10-inch cab.

:D

The word is sometimes used as a pejorative when referring to or addressing someone of Asian descent.

I guess I live a sheltered life. I never heard of that word being derogatory in any way.
BMW, why do you think this amp would sound good through a 210 cab?
I don't have any 10's. What I have is a Carvin 212 with two 100w speakers, and a 112 cab with a Celestion G12H-75 Creamback. Neither of those two cabs is going to provide much speaker breakup.

The amp will sound fine through a 2 x 12 inch. It was just a curious thought, on my part. Me being a little partial to certain amps with 10-inch speakers.

That's all. My bet is that you are going to really like that amp.

I should think that amp will sound great with any speaker configuration you might choose.

What are your thoughts on speaker wattage. I purposely used higher watt speakers so that OD was controllable through pedals and amp, and I wouldn't get speaker breakup when I was trying to be clean.
If you were doing it, would you go with a little lower wattage speaker to get them closer to the edge?

For a 40-watt amp, I would use a pair of 40-watt speakers.
