Here's the story; I have a '63 Vibroverb (sn 0434). Back in the '60's (gives you a hint to my age) I put the chassis into a blackface Super cab. I no longer have the original cab. I'm going to have a cab made and return the amp back to its original config. The problem is, I can't find any reliable info on the cab dimensions. The biggest question among cabinet builders is depth. Everyone agrees on the '64 depth as 10.5", measured at the bottom.

Fender states the depth of the '63 as 8 5/8" (for the reissue, anyway) but doesn't specify at what point this measurement is taken. I talked to Fender tech and they couldn't provide any clarity either. Cab builders tell me they only know of two cabinet depths for combos; the 10.5" of the Super, Twin, i.e., larger combos and 9 5/8" of the smaller combos like the Deluxe, Princeton, et. al. That puts the Fender-stated 8 5/8" as an oddball size.

In addition to talking to Fender and numerous Fender amp restorers, I've spent countless hours searching online for the appropriate dimensions to no avail. So, I figured I'd throw it out here. Maybe one of the few owners of these will take some measurements for me or someone with definitive info will chime in.

Oh, and if I ever get a cabinet built, I'll have a '60's Super cab available (says 'Production 26' on the tube chart).

The '63 Vibroverb used the medium-sized chassis straps (4½ inches) as this photo demonstrates......

Thus, the cabinet was somewhat shallower than Fender's other 6L6-powered combo amps. I believe the cited 8-5/8" depth dimension is correct. The box is proportioned more akin to that of a Deluxe Reverb than a Vibrolux Reverb or a 6G4 Super.

So, I just heard, through a second party, from the fellow who was the Fender cabinet builder when this amp built. The cabinets were made 1 1/4" wider than the chassis with 1" of taper to the bottom. In the case of the '63 VV then, it would be 9.5" at the bottom. As you said Arjay, same as the Deluxe. Thanks for the input.

If he's done his homework, your cab builder should end up with something that resembles this......

Early brownface Vibroverbs used the "nail-in" style feet ala a Champ or Princeton as opposed to the screw-in type glides of the larger amps and the tilt-back legs would be stamped "PATENT PENDING" with an Sxxxxx serial number.

If Arjay says it is so about an amp cabinet, you can take it to the bank! The man knows his cabinets! Was this one of yours...looks damn familiar...
