Stratman, This is for those that use today's GZ34/5AR4, not yesterday's well-made Mullard or GE's tubes. Specially, the Sovtek or Chinese Shuguang, known for flash-over.

Correct.

Quality glass like these need no such "assistance"......

This has nothing to do with protecting the tube rectifier, it is to protect the amp in case the tube rectifier shorts. I don't believe that any brand of tube is bullet proof. All tubes can fail, and putting these diodes in place in case of tube failure would be a wise move.

I agree! I have RCA 5Y3 glass and my 5E3 has had the 1N4007s for some time. Protection is wise!

I notice that Fender put these diodes in at the factory, on the circuit board, for the 59 Bassman RI. I am not sure if they have done the same for any other amps. :?:

I don't see any evidence of those diodes on the schematics for the DRRI or the '68 CDR, at least not yet.

Yeah, the Bassman RI is the only one I've noticed so far.

Anybody looked under the hood of a Super Reverb re-issue or the custom-shop 5E3 tweed Deluxe lately?

The '57 Deluxe has the diodes too.

I've worked on a couple of Mission Amps that had inline diodes with the 5AR4. 6L6GC 30-40 watt amps, IIRC.

Well since my 69 super reverb had to go to the tech, I showed him this mod, he looked at the copy I made, than he mentioned somebody's name and said he knows this hand writing, and yes this should be done he said, than he went into using UF4007 instead, but this will cost 60 cent compared to 5 cent for the IN4007, I told him I can afford the extra money  if he has one in stock.
