I have a 1984 Super Champ amp and I was wondering what the "Hum Balance" control on the back does? Also would it hurt the amp if I wired a parallel speaker out to the hard wired speaker wires? I would run an additional 8 ohm cab for a 4 ohm output. Can this amp work on 4ohms?

Hum balance . turn it until you ear no hum in the speaker it is safe to use .

Your Fender amp can use 4 ohms speaker load

Thanks for your reply. I know how to use it. What I wondered is, is it a bias or some type of noise gate or some type of ground lift?

No is not .

Hum balance pot adjustment is most of the time better at the center .
Super champ don't have pot for bias
A 3 prong power cord don't need a ground lift or ground polarity

profgalen, welcome to the Forum! The Super Champ's hum pot helps balance the AC heater line. This, plus twisting the two heater leads, helps to cancel-out hum from the 6.3VAC line.
