Thanks Beemer !
Couldn't have done it without Guys like you who guided me through the learning curve (not that i have arrived)
Tweaking amps has turned into a big part of my guitar life ! I get a Huge kick out of taking so so sounding amps and bring back the authority to it, make it sing LOUD !

Ya the last super I had was a Master volume without the tube rectifier (I think), been a few too many years
However I'm sure its in a thread here somewhere

This one has found a spot in my personal line up and hopefully it will stay for the long haul.
The recone guy at Weber says next week, i'm tempted to drive down and get em, Its only about a two hour drive and Kokomo is pretty cool.
Amazing antique store !!! even had some tubes last time down.

You are welcome! Restoration of these vintage amps is something well worth passing onto others. The results can be very satisfying, after doing the proper work.

Good luck with all of your amps!

Just for fun i dug up my old Super reverb Thread from a few years back
Man I've learned so much since then !

viewtopic.php?f=12&t=74018&hilit=super+reverb

1977 ??? master volume At first was told it was a 74 Arjay corrected me, another lesson learned !
My current S/R actually has more 73 date codes than 74 and the CTS were 71 so..............?????

A likely scenario is that the 1971-marked speakers are replacements.

I thought that was probable Arjay , didn't think they left a pile of alnico CTS lying around for three years
Does make ya wonder why you tend to see more ceramics than alnicos in the mid 70's
For what its worth I'm glad mine had the alnico magnets, replacements or otherwise.

Weber says they will get mine done this week and as tempted as I am to replace the other two with some variation of a 10" ceramic, I do believe I'll just eventually have the other pair reconed and keep it all the same.

Knowing the guys at weber, I'm guessing its gonna sound Sweet !

For some reason (maybe cost?) --- ceramic magnet speakers were more plentiful in the 1970-80s, than alnico magnet. Many alnico ones were built with 30-watt handling capacity voice coils. I still like the tone of a good alnico magnet speaker on these mid-level powered vintage Fender amps. A bit warmer, maybe more natural, "brown" harmonics?

When I first heard a Super Reverb, in action --- initial thought was, "that is loud." Loud & very nice. Loudest mid 30-ish watt amp I've ever heard.

My son and his little family came over last night and he got to play the Super Reverb for the first time and my new secret weapon (don't shoot !!! ) a Squier, yes a Squier Classic Vibe Tele I picked up for under 150 bones that is as nice as any I've played
I do love my local pawn shops

Any way Joe (my son) laid down his best Zeppelin, Rush, Kansas, pink Floyd etc..... looks at me and says Dad this thing sounds perfect for covering classic rock !!! Yep it sure does !

Image

Yes I'm still in the basement  roofer's are scheduled here in two weeks and the man cave shall once again arise !!!!
Loosing that 19.5X19.5' space really cramped my style !

+1

Commodity prices for rhodium, chromium, nickel, cobalt, and other rare-earth metals on the world market began to climb in the mid '70s due to global upheaval as many former European colonies on the African continent had been granted independence or otherwise threw off the yoke of political and economic oppression. Lacking European expertise to properly mine and refine them, prices for these minerals soared and to this day remain quite expensive.

Well, it looks like I got in a similar Super Reverb in for some work.
Based on your recommendations, I think I'll go with the PI mods and screen grid resistors. I'll let ya know how it works out.

Getting started
Image

Mailman just dropped off the Opto Bug and so I started pulling the board electrolytics , just got going and its time to light the grill
Fresh corn on the cob roasted on my big charcoal grill  and some burgers too :D oh ya and sweet cantaloup.

I'll let you all know how it all works out, the tremolo/vibrato has been very week and so I'm excited to see if the new bug wakes it up.

Done !
all new electrolytics throughout
New Opto Bug and with that a fully functioning vibrato !

I used the TAD bipolar 25uf 25V lytics on the board after researching (talking with Beemer) and hey they were a super deal too so...............

The amp is running super quiet , rich and full of sweet tones and still only running two original CTS speakers and one Lil Buddy Eminence as a buffer to take a little stress of the originals.
Hopefully Weber will ship the reconed CTS next week.

Really hope that reconing comes out well. You go for none or light doping?

Be interested how long those bi-polar caps last. Suppose to last longer than the polar 'lytics.
