Grill cloth baffle is shot
Speakers weak at best and the replacements at the bottom do nothing for me
4X alnico for me please
It did come with a cool Tuki cover and actually sounded Good if not great as it was so given a quick tune up of good tubes , proper bias circuit and a new baffle should make it excellent !!!
5U4G or GZ34 rectifier ?????
Poor thing had crappy 5881wxt power tubes in it too and a bunch of jj preamp Junk, one excellent RCA12AT7 that will stay in and the rest will go in the cheap tube drawer

Don't keep em in a drawer.
Donchya know, the easiest way to outplay your friends is to give them all your old tubes

Got F&T caps on the way !
making it a true bias adjust today and choosing some good tubes
Heating up the Iron here shortly
I'll try and update as I go
5751 in V-2 but that shouldn't surprise anyone

I did notice that a cranked reverb pot added a considerable amount of gain at the same time as crazy deep reverb.

Being a 1974 I'm guessing this was one of the last non master volume models ?

"5U4G or GZ34 rectifier ?????"

The 1974 SR came with 5U4GB rectifier. You can use either the GZ34 (5AR4) or the 5U4GB. Need to rebias the 6L6GC and check plate voltage.

Is this your amp?

I'll try both
Bias mod done , waiting on electrolytic caps

Before and after on the bias adjustment circuit
Then I replaced the red plug three prong for a modern three cable grounded plug, the old one was tarnished very badly even under the wraps and insulation, couldn't get it to take solder !
Anyway now it has a nice safe cord.

On the hunt for some speakers too !

Backdating the bias supply to have a bias pot is the way to go. Word of note, going to 220k-ohm grid-to-ground resistors does put the a little more juice onto the signal grids of the 6L6GC. Need good tubes. I go to a 1k-ohm, 5-watt, wire-wound resistor, for the screen grids. Makes the amp a bit more stable.

Good luck! Great potential, there.

Inside the amp looks pretty clean. I take it you gave it a good cleaning? If so what do you use to get metal parts like the transformer and amp housing clean. My 66 Super Reverb could use a goon internal cleaning. Not sure what to use though.

No cleaning on this one it was as you see it when i pulled the chassis.
Looking at the circuit I would say this one hasn't seen a lot of time apart from its cab, all original components throughout and no signs of resolder anywhere.

My biggest concern is that those CTS alnicos on the bottom had popped their dust caps and are DOA, the replacements that last owner put in are eminence Delta 10A 350 watt 12 lb each bass speakers.
Obviously that isn't gonna work !
I'm waiting to hear from weber on recone prices since thankfully the original owner kept the blown CTS
and I got a price from a guy in Ohio that does hemp cone recone work

These CTS 10-inch alnicos are definitely worth a good recone/need voice coil. One of the best 10-inch guitar speakers, I've heard.

I agree Beemer, hopefully I can get them all reconed eventually
I'm very anxious to her the old girl all freshened up, The amp sounded great as it was.

I have never had a grill screen fall apart like that, no sign of water damage at all, it broke in the middle and the bottom just crumbled apart, the chassis is solid as a rock so................?

Tubes, Tubes, Tubes ! what to use ?????

The CTS alnicos are in route to Kokomo IN
Weber does recones on CTS for 65 each and they also highly recommended keeping the CTS
When the guys at weber say a speaker is worth the effort I have to believe it !
Beemer throwing his hat in the ring with them is a double whammy positive.
The top originals look to be just fine and I'll wait to get the twins back from weber to determine if they need freshened up too.

Now 5 to 6 weeks wait time, Dude that's gonna kill me

From what I've read & heard, Weber does an excellent job of reconing speakers. Actually, adds to the resale value. I've only used Orange County Speakers, which also is most excellent. It may take time, but it'll be worth it.

Guess you'll just have to play that amp through your Bassman cabs --- until the CTS come back home. :D  :D
