Just found an interesting NOS tube in my drawer. Its a Matsushita 12ax7/ecc83 made in Japan. I was reading and its referred to as a Japan Mullard. Sounds pretty good.

Matsushita may also be found with a Panasonic label. They're good tubes.

Just an update. I bought an ANOS RCA 7025 that still tested new and put it in V2 and wow it sounds great. I am also using a NOS RCA 12AT7 in the PI slot. I also ordered and received a couple of the Gold Lion 12ax7 tubes and put one in V1 for normal channel and I am surprised how good those sound. Tried a Mullard new release 12ax7 and that one I was not impressed with at all. Thanks guys for the tube recommendations and pointing me in the right direction. Very happy with the sound I am getting on both channels.

The Gold Lion 12AX7 is a pretty fine tube. I cannot testify as to their longevity (yet) but they sound pretty close to vintage NOS.

Glad it's all working out for you!

In the 1960s, Matsushita contracted with Raytheon to make mil spec tubes. Their 5751 & 12AX7A are excellent tubes. Most Japanese made Raytheon tubes have yellow labels. As opposed to the US made ones, with red-orange labels. These yellow ones were built to mil spec standards, using Raytheon jigs.

BTW... the Matsushita and Toshiba GZ34/5AR4 are excellent rectifiers. They used Mullard jigs to build them.

Thanks. Well live read and learn. I was EQing this amp all wrong. I had the bright switch off and the bass turned up way to much. I read about the Magical Six I think its called with the Treble at 6, mids at 3, Bass at 2, Reverb at 2 and bright switch on. Sounded much better but sounded a little too bright for my likings. I am sure my stock speakers come in to play too. Then I saw a video of a guy using a BL SF and he had his treble at 7, mids at 5, bass at 3 and bright switch on and wow that did it for me. If you guys have thoughts on EQ settings using Strats and LPs would love to hear you thoughts however I am a lot happier with the sound now than I was before.

I generally use the bright switch only with Les Pauls, to give the humbuckers some top-end sparkle. Strats swing the other way and don't really need that extra treble kick. Room acoustics play a significant role in how I dial up the tone controls but I usually start out with the treble at 6 or 6½, the mids at 5, and the bass at 4. Once set, I don't change these values regardless of which guitar I'm playing.
