Think I will order some good 7025 tubes for V1 and V2 though. Maybe a pair of RCAs.

Any vintage NOS 7025's would be an excellent choice, especially those marked as Mil-Spec.

My favorite 12AX7s for the SR (Fender tone) are:

1.) Raytheon black plate mil spec 12AX7A or 5751 (ring or windmill getter).

2.) RCA 7025.

3.) Gold Lion B759/ECC83 (Russian). For current makes.

BTW... you didn't day which rectifier you were using. For 5U4GB types = Tungsol black plate (USA) 5U4GB.

For GZ34... the Mullard (of course). But, US made GE and Sylvania/Philips make excellent 5AR4 (GZ34).

For 12AT7:

1.) Sylvania triple mica black plate (or gray plate) mil spec 12AT7WA (6201).

2.) Siemens-Halske E81CC.

As for 6L6GC... RCA black plates or GE 7581A (STR-6L6GC). New Tungsol 7581A are very tough tubes. Can be biased a bit hotter than usual 6L6GCs.

There's nothing wrong with the Amperex GZ34. Nothing at all.

Thanks for all the tube suggestions. Going to be ordering a bunch tomorrow. As far as a rectifier tube I am not sure what is in there however it along with the power tubes which are GTs still show strong so I will start with with preamp tubes and a couple of good 12AT7s. I now have a Marshall JVM410HJS, Dual Showman Reverb and now this Super Reverb. Think I will learn to bias my own amps so going to order a nice bias tool as well. Its about time I learn to do things like biasing myself since I have all these tube amps. Anyway the tube recommendations are great and much appreciated.

Basically, a rectifier tube either works or it doesn't -- there's not much sonic character to be derived from it. If you've got a decent rectifier in the amp right now and it isn't rattling or microphonic, leave it in situ and just concentrate on the other bottles. But I would recommend keeping a spare GZ34 handy just in case......

Metal based Dutch Amperex GZ34 are the ultimate GZ34 rectifier. Very hard to find these days. Think that most black plastic based Amperex GZ34s are made in Blackburn factory (same as Mullard).

In any event, nearly any Philips/Mullard/Amperex/Valvo GZ34 is going to be a good rectifier.

They must've been somewhat rare even back in the day because for the life of me I can't ever recall seeing one. The only Amperex GZ34 I'm familiar with is the bakelite-base variant......

(Sylvania big-bottle halo-getter GZ34 for comparison on the right)

Spent some hours playing through the Super Reverb last night and all I can say is this has to be one of, if not the nicest sounding guitar amps I have played through. The cleans are absolutely warm, bell like and with a beautiful chime and to me sound better than the 65 RI Twin I use to own or my current Dual Showman Reverb. No comparison really. Depending on the guitar I am using the Super Reverb seems to start breaking up at about 5.5 on the Volume control and the warmth and punch really sound fantastic. Love these stock Oxford speakers. Anyway I am soooo happy with this amp and very happy I did the trade of my telecaster for it. Its most definitely a keeper and I may just be on a honeymoon with this amp but to my ears it is truly tone Heaven. Highly recommend one of these if someone is wanting a vintage blackface amp.

Thought that you may like this amp. Takes to pedals well, too.

Enjoy!

+1

And you now know why Fender was once considered the benchmark for guitar amplification.

Dunno if you've already seen this YT video. My favorite test of the blackface SR:

Great video! Hey I need someone to point me in the right direction. Went to ebay to order some NOS RCA 7025 tubes and I see long and short plate and grey and black plate and so I do not know what to order. Some say 12ax7 and others say 7025. They would be for V1 and V2. Any help would be great.

The long plates are more susceptible to becoming microphonic with age and use. Stick to the shorties for extended tube life.

The 7025 has an improved S/N ratio to keep the audio stages quiet. Best used in the V1 in V2 positions to minimize hiss.

Thanks I will get a couple ordered. I had Grove Tubes in there and they seems harsh and bright. Tried a JJ ECC83s and it added warmth and actually didn't sound bad. Seemed to tame the highs some however lost some of the sparkle and headroom. Trying a new release Mullard and it sounds pretty good and a little better than the JJ to my ears. However I will not be able to rest until I try NOS RCAs.

Westinghouse and Raytheon also built pretty stout 7025's as well. Worthy of consideration.
