A new customer bring me 3 Blackface amps to repair .
Two of them have a wrong fuse
One have a 3 amps , it need a 2 amps slow blow ; not bad

The other one have a 15 amps fuse , yes fifteen amps . Amplifier need 2 amps sb
Any short in the amp and the power transformer ( and more ? ) will blow.

Thats what happened in other customer last year . He blow is power transformer .

With your second had amplifier , check electrical fuse first

+1!

This should be step one of the check-out process for any piece of newly-acquired used equipment. If it's found that the gear has been over-fused, investigate the reason before powering it up.

I don't know if I had mentioned it already, but when I 'acquired' my 69 Super Reverb Amp from my old singer, he told me he tried to get it working but it "must be broken". I used it as a speaker cabinet for a couple of years before I even understood what a great find it was.

Well upon further investigation, it turns out my old singer didn't have a fuse on hand so he wadded up some foil and stuck it in there. I went out and picked up the appropriate fuse, popped it in, and the amp turned on. I was literally laughing out loud in my basement.

I just moved into an old house with two prong receptacles and two wire connections thruout. We changed all the receptacles to newer 3 prong so we don't have to pull the Ground Spade. Still I am not happy without proper grounding but I know what to expect and proceed with caution!

New 3 holes ( prong ) receptacles don't ground your amp but it is more usefull with 3 prong wire cords

I used to do Residential Electrical so I am well aware of the problems. I just did a check of most receptacles and the room I will be plugging my amps to is grounded and correct Polarity as well as the kitchen. That is great to find out!

Make sure you have an operating GFI outlet in both your kitchen and your bathroom(s).

I don't know how I survived in the house I grew up in, but my father was always warning us boys through life of all the dangers. He made sure we knew a bit of common sense. Never heard of a GFCI back then. He would tell us the stories of hair dryers and electric razors falling into the tub and put a scare into us. :) He told us of a little boy dying in his arms because he ran into the road and a dump truck ran over him. He was always making sure we knew we had to be careful unlike todays parents don't even care where or what their children are doing. When one gets hurt or killed it is always someone else's fault.
