Looks like the seller put 6L6GC into the amp. So no telling how many mods were done to it.

Fender never made these...however with Fender you can never say never. As pointed out with the 6L6's it's been modded. Although as Arjay will attest this is a great idea...along with Fenders release of a Deluxe Reverb head unit.

Does sound like a good idea, but as I will not be able to get my hands on it unless I win the bid, no returns, and who knows what is really in there without pulling it apart. While part of me say, go for it the other half is yelling remember what happens most of the time when you have gambled on something, I lose quite often on a bet. i still have a few days to keep thinking about it

In all candor I would not buy such a heavily-modified amp unless I could personally inspect it prior to the sale. I've seen too many of those butcher jobs to risk my cash on such a possible pig in a poke.

Thanks Arjay I needed that. I have closed this chapter, I will not give it another thought. But I will still keep my eye out for the Princeton Reverb of my dreams and pocket resource $$$$

Prices for Princeton Reverb's are stratospheric and still climbing but there are still bargains to be had among the late '70s silverface models. And unlike the more powerful Fender amps, the "student" models suffered very little circuit diddling during the reign of the CBS junta.

Yeah I am seeing how much they want for these little porch weasels, and it is discouraging but I am still looking. They seem to have a bigger resale value than my 69 SFSR I guess that's because they weigh a lot less, and break up around 6 the same as my SFSR, but on 6 you can be in the same room with the Princeton, unlike my SR, which can get a bit loud

I didn't believe it myself until I started searching for a PR about ten years ago. I mean, who'd have thought that a diminutive "student amp" would command so much dinero? However, my quest was ultimately successful, yielding a late 1965 blackface in near-perfect cosmetic condition for slightly less than 1/3 of market value.

Yeah that was mine. It had a crappy Quam speaker in it and needed a cap can plus a few resistors. Now it drives a CTS alnico speaker from a '67 Super Reverb and has a standby switch as well. A real nice package.
