Sure seems like a loose connection somewhere. Hopefully, the new sockets, resistors and caps will fix it right up.

That latest symptom, the distorted decay, could be those other power supply caps. When you get them in, let us know.

Might have been a "good" 6l6 that wasn't so good
6ma difference only in one tube since I last checked them
Thankfully I have a spare RCA that is within 2ma of the strong tube
I do think the filter caps will help also

Nope that wasn't it
Oh well on to sockets and filter caps when they arrive

The fun part is the journey towards finding the cure :D and then playing it like ya stole it 8)

Thank You Shimmilou !
Got mine this morning

Gonna let this rest till my parts get here for the cap and resistor change
I am hopeful that its the right direction to solving this , a jensen mod 50 @ 32ohms will arrive to replace the one badly damaged speaker and if we (I include you guys here) can get the circuit stable I may replace the other three as I'm not prone to play bass and these dudes are definitely tuned for bass.

Just to throw this out there for future readers, the casters on these beasts make them very unstable !!! I've had to catch it several times too keep it from hitting the floor, I only left them intact while preforming the repairs.

My overall thoughts on a bassman 10 are this, they are cheap to buy generally and have enough potential to be great amps if you can tinker with them, speakers are WAY bassy ! and If I were to take it to its greatest potential, I would have to either remove 2/3 of the back or buy a head cab that it would fit to use with separate cabs.

Keeping in mind that this one is an earlier 50 watt non UL
My OT has a 1973 date , the Power tranny is 1974 and all four speakers are dated 1975
Took three years to build this beast

Well the 22uf 500 volt caps came in, the 100uf 350volt caps are on the way (two sellers one fast one WAY Slow !)
Found a sweet new electronics shop in neighboring Valparaiso IN that had every metal Oxide resistor ya ever wanted.
I'm now well stocked 8)

Started cleaning out the board, hopefully the 100's will be here soon

The last filter caps arrived !!!
Image

Only replaced the one speaker until I was sure it was gonna survive (the amp)
and survive it did !!!
Image

I did end up pulling the RCA 6L6GC's and used some close matched Russian tubes for now 6L6EH's
Image

The are running at about 33ma and sound SWEET !

As I said in the last post, only One Speaker replaced so far
The only noise I get is speaker rattle at high volumes so.......
Image

The Jensen MOD 50 are the only 32 ohm 10" speakers I could find, kinda stuck with them
but a few hours of pounding will make them very usable
Image

Running with the baffle off to keep an eye on the 6L6's and feel the transformers for heat
after 15 to 20 minutes of jamm'n both were still cool to the touch
no red plates so............................
A win for the Good Guys !!! 8)

Good choice, EH makes some great tubes. Hopefully, all is well now. If you want vintage sound from modern tubes, the GT GE are really nice, or TAD has some very similar to the GT GE. I use the GT GE in my Bassman and they sound very similar to original GE.

 So..... I go down plug in a single 12" cab with an 8 ohm weber 12F150 in it
It cuts out, i turn it off plug in the 4x10's and its falling all over itself again

All I did different was to unplug the jack and plug it in to the cab, its a shorting jack, could that piece of poopy be causing all of this ???
The amp sounded so stable earlier !!!

You've covered just about everything but the jack. You might be able to clean it with some fine grit sandpaper, or just replace it. Looks like a standard 12A jack.

See that big old brown ceramic cap ?
if you move him just a bit you lose signal and get lotsa noise !
Guessing I found the dirty dog for sure this time

I hope !

Attaches to pin # 2 of v-3 the PI

I'm guessing one of these bad boys in my NOS capacitor drawer will do the job
