To me it seems similar to the difference between the bass and normal Chanel on my Bassman head

Ya the jj 12ax7 pre amp tubes seem so sterile in comparison

I am also very pleased with how stout the bottom is despite the smallish size of the OT
There is real potential in this critter
The guys from Weber say that they may very well be able to recone since they are CTS speakers
Only one has a hole in the surround , but two others have "repairs" of the silicone kind LOL !

Reconing maybe the way to go. Would Weber replace the 32-ohm voice coils with new ones?

yes Beemer they will replace the coils
As it turns out the amp started cutting out again and was very noisy when the standby was flipped either way.
I put a new Standby switch in and yet some noise, Pulled the PI and put in a new tube, quiet, put old tube in Quiet................................
Cleaned the tube socket and she is absolutely quiet as far as extraneous noise and it sounds Great !!!
Dirty socket I'm thinking

Blues it does seam you have great tone package there. And it does seam that pretty much any variant of the Bassman circuit whether it is this one or the Bantam are well kept secrets and tuneful beasts!

Hopefully I got rid of all the gremlins
As is turns out Weber can't recone the originals, the voice coils are too small all they had were 1.5 or 2"
the coils are 1" in these
So looks like the Jensen Mods are my only choice, only one is too far gone to save so...............
I know I could use 8ohm speakers and do the series / parallel wiring

Gremlins II
Playing along and I hear static and loose most of my sound
manipulate the volume pot and you get a surge and the sound returns
All my reading check out , could a 1M pot really work perfect one minute then go nuts ???
when the issue (low output) was happening, if I engaged the bright switch it would squeal like a banshee

Otherwise the amp sounds great , speaker seizing up ? those old caps ??? but when she is running good there is Zero hum ! dead quiet
this one has me stumped :?

PS
I just ordered 2X100uf 350 Volt and 3X 22uf 500 Volt electrolytics for her
Whoever did it last did the wire twist connection and horrible solder work so...............
here we go again

Try re-tensioning the preamp tube sockets.

I did a pretty good wiggle test on the preamp tubes when it dropped out and got no response
went through all the leads with a chopstick and got no response, obviously ya cant really do a wiggle test on a 6L6GC that's been cooking for 20 minutes unless you like the smell of burnt flesh LOL !!!

The "bias" pot is still just a hum balance and was very gritty sounding when i "balanced" the power tubes
I need to convert to a true Bias adjustment any way and wonder if the pot could be part of the problem ?
I gave it a good deoxit bath but.....................

I will say that I've found others having this same difficulty with a Bassman 10 and it did come back to the preamp sockets and so it deserves at least another look

Maybe clean all volume and tone pots. Check to be sure the disc caps soldered to these pots are ok. All wires to pots have good solder.

Check that the idle bias is steady. And the C- bias supply voltage is steady.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

The 6L6's were pretty loose in the sockets and I retensioned them, we shall see
All pots have been thoroughly deoxited

See below for Today's flea market find

For those of you keeping score LOL
gremlins 3 Me ZERO !
Ok not really it has gotten better with each step

Now I've fine tuned the issue
Turn on the amp and get static briefly then full sound, after a while you get static again and loose full sound
what you then get is the guitar sound as if it were coming from a one dollar cheap am radio
hit my clean boost pedal and it will erupt into full sound again  really wakes ya up !

I've cleaned every pot, check bias, fixed iffy solder joints, changed tubes, tightened sockets, re cleaned tube sockets and pots.

Some how the power amp section is dropping out ??? agree ?
The bias pot was very scratchy , the electrolytics are OLD !!

Yes, eliminate the old 'lytics, and maybe you have some flaky CC resistors, especially on the Plates and power supply.
