I picked up what was billed as an all original 1968 Fender showman 1x12 cabinet the other day.

It has the original leather cover, looks great (natural wear and tear, but babied)...but here's my concerns:

1) it's a 2x12...I thought they were all 15" configs
2) it has the drip edge
3) tall boy upright configuration with piggybacked 12's with a partition between teh speakers
4) the speakers are Radio Shack Realistics made by Jensen

Is this a bandmaster or bassman cab? I thought a bassman did not have the partition, and the showman only had 15's?
Also, could it be possible that the speakers are original? I thought htey all came with either jensen, jbl, or cts speakers?

I've found some internet stories where people say theirs have Radio Shack speakers as well, but it's so hard to tell if they are original, or if Jensen shipped those to Fender instaed of RS. I guess Jensen made speakers for about 4 different brands, and RS was one of them.

Here's a pic:

That looks to be a Bandmaster or Bassman (early only) cabinet from 1968. The determining factor is the spacing for the anchors on the top where the amp head would attach to via the slide brackets.

Jensen never manufactured any musical instrument speakers for Radio Shack -- they were all made by Utah. And in any case, they are not original to the cabinet.

Going into the 1968 model year, both the Bandmaster and Bassman enclosures featured a pair of twelves (usually Oxford or Utah) but in the spring the Bassman boxes began to ship with a pair of fifteens -- either CTS, Utah or optionally, the JBL D140F.

These enclosures were partitioned and ported, with exterior dimensions of 29½"W x 39½"H x 11½"D. The Bandmaster Reverb cab is identical with the exception of the head-mounting anchors which (if memory serves me) are 17 inches center-to-center.

Cabinets from early 1969 shared the drip-edge cosmetics of 1968 but used a different weave color for the grill cloth. The '68 has silver/black/blue filaments while cloth from '69 used silver/white/metallic turquoise.

Mine, with matching head. Early '68 according to the tranny codes. It's hard to see the light blue threads in the grill cloths. The guy that I bought it from, thought the cab was a 4x12, maybe because it is huge.

Inside, speakers replaced with V30s.

Ok, so here's some photos of the speakers themselves.

From what I can tell, there are no other markings anywhere.
Seem to be 'vintage' radio shack speakers from the late 60's. I have seen that these are probably made by Utah, who were an OEM speaker provider for Fender.

Can anybody tell me more with these pix?

Pry off the magnets and they'll make suitable frisbees for your next block party or backyard barbecue.

Utah's were original in bandmasters.

I believe that you have Tru-Sonic speakers. They were also made by Utah. But, better built than the Realistic Branded speakers in your ad.

•Frequency Response.........................................67 Hz to 3.5 kHz
•Sensitivity.....................................................89 SPL (db)
•Impedance............................................................8 Ohms
•Power Rating.....................................................50 W (RMS)
•Diameter..........................................................12 Inches

With specs like these, even the finest guitar and amp combination will sound like a couple of tin cans linked together with forty feet of AWG22 wire. Just about as loud too.

I told you the damn things were junk.
