Anybody ever seen anything this crazy looking? Surely this could never have been an actual Fender production item. What in the world is going on here?

That is one of the amps in FMI's infamous "Zodiac" line of transistorized amps, specifically the 4 x 12, 105-watt Libra......

http://www.vintageguitarandbass.com/fen ... 970_63.php

Someone has surreptitiously stuck a "BOSS" decal on the front panel in a lame attempt to conceal its true pedigree. These amps are losers and best ignored by anyone seriously interested in true Fender tone. They were poorly designed, shoddily built, and many of them actually caught fire in the field. Introduced late in 1969 and -- mercifully -- discontinued in the spring of 1971.

'Nuff said.

Thanks, Arjay. I figured if it was even real that it was one of Fender's ill-advised, and even more poorly realized, S/S line items. It was the lack of any Fender ID on the face plate that made me wonder if this were a chocked together item-some transistorized head stuck into a Quad Reverb cab, for example.
Even with 4 JBL 120's, the $2,000 asking price is insane.

Absent the speakers, I wouldn't give $200 for that piece of crap.

Might make a nice nest for a good Fender tube amp project. Rip out that POS SS Libra chassis and find something good that would fit. The cabinets are solid enough, the matched set of JBL 120's are superior speakers, so maybe it's worth $400-$500 But NO ONE could possible be stupid enough to pay $2K for it. I guess that is the true difference between "Asking" price and final "Actual" bid.

+1

Awhile back I recollect seeing an Ebay listing for a "gently used" Super Reverb re-issue for $1400.

Right below it (literally) was a Sweetwater ad for a BRAND NEW SRRI for $1299. With free shipping!

Go figure.
