Easy install, the amp is obviously heavier now, looks good installed.Gave a test run, sounds great, fuller, more bottom end, will test again later with some pedals.Boxed up the original in the box to save, overall I am very pleased with the way this little amp turned out.Image

Give that speaker thirty or forty hours of *vigorous* play before rendering a final opinion. I think you'll be quite pleased.

Thanks for all the help on this project Arjay, I'm already loving this little amp, if it gets even better after the speaker breaks in I will be even more thrilled. Over all I have very little $$$ in this amp, and can see I will enjoy it for for a long time to come (it was also a fun project and I'm learning quite a bit as I go on, thanks to everyone on this forum).

No problem, we're all glad that the amp turned out so well after some basic maintenance and a couple of easy upgrades.

Rawk on!

Congrats on the completion of the refurb! I would be surprised if you don't end up loving that Kendrick speaker! They are tougher than nails and manage a nice Jensen vibe tone wise. My '68 Champ with a Kendrick made me a believer in them! Enjoy your new "Porch Weasel"!

Quick tube update on the Champ, the old brown base RCA(1955 military spec I was told)that I pulled out when I was getting the oscillating echo, I thought was a bad tube, but after pulling that loose socket pin off,( I guess it was vibrating in the socket).Tried it again for a couple long sessions it sounds great, also replaced the Sylvania 5Y3 with a NOS RCA 5Y3, and this little amp is really operating and sounding wonderful.Image

A good-running Champ (from any vintage era) is awfully hard to beat.

Congrats on putting yours back in perfect running order.

RCA 5Y3 was OEM on my 1978. I still have it. I'm running a JJ Electronics 5Y3 instead right now.

Mine had Sylvania's, not sure if that's what it came with from factory, but has all RCA's now and seems to really like it!

RCAs are great tubes. You won't need to get new tubes for awhile. I'd look for good pulls to keep as backup.

I've heard Kendrick mentioned for replacement, some said Weber sounder dark or muffled, I would want a nice clean, not looking for early break up, all suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a Weber Sig 8 in my 74 Champ and it's not muffled at all. Great sounding speaker and a huge improvement over the OEM that was in there. I also replaced the phono jack with a standard 1/4" phone jack so I can run extension cabs with a Weber Z-Matcher. Makes that 6 watts sound huge.

Supro, I have a couple of these adapters lying around the house. The Champ sounds very nice through a 2 x 12 inch cab.

That's for sure. I had an adapter, but when I changed out the speaker, I changed out the jack. It fits in the same hole without drilling. I saved the original though. I'm always either losing or forgetting adapters. I lost some brain cells in the late 60's and early 70's.

Last part of this project arrived at door step today, Kendrick black frame 8, 4ohm speaker,

Sorry for the necropost. I've got a 73 Champ that I've been considering stuffing a 10" speaker in, since I have a spare Eminence 10" laying about. But the 10" I have is 8 ohm. I know most Fender amps will easily tolerate a 100% mismatch in impedance, but I've never dealt with it in a single ended 6V6 amp before.

Is it possible? Or to be avoided?? This amp wouldn't be dimed most of the time.
