Thanks Arjay, thats what I was hoping, an unused pin, the amp sounds really good now, so if it won't hurt anything, I will leave it alone for now, should I push it back into the empty hole or just leave it out?

Never seen that before. Can you pull the piece off from your tube? Did you contact your tech?

yes, it comes off the tube, I didn't contact the tech because the pin seems to be unused and does not effect the amps operation, it seems the tube itself was causing the weird noise after it warms up.

Do not attempt to reinsert that pin into the tube socket. If it happens to fall out again into the chassis, the results could be catastrophic when you power the amp up.

Thanks for all the info guys, I will leave the amp as is for now, it seems to be operating just fine, waiting on the Kendrick speaker to arrive, and just replaced some rusty hardware, chassis straps and handle. If it acts up again, I will get it right back to the tech. Does anyone still sell this silver grill cloth with orange stripes?

Nobody ever did. Nor was any repro ever available.

The orange-stripe years (1974 through late 1977) are an era best forgotten by most Fender fans. The cloth itself was a holdover -- purchased in 1969 for exclusive use on Fender's ultimately disastrous line of transistorized "Zodiac" amps. When those amps were mercifully discontinued in 1971 (very few were actually sold) that left FMIC with a huge inventory of parts and materials that shared no commonality with the products that were selling. To clear the warehouse, the corporation decided to recycle the orange-stripe cloth by installing it on standard silverface tube models. Once the supply was exhausted in 1977, Fender reverted back to the traditional silver/white/turquoise weave.

Were that Champ Amp mine, I'd order a new grill frame from Rodgers Amps, with conventional aged silverface cloth. I think they run about eighty bucks.

I want to keep the original grill cloth, so I sat and looked at it a bit, and decided to get creative(and save $80 bucks) so I took the grill off, turned it around, cut a square off the overlap, lined up pattern, then superglued patch to the backside, it's not perfect, but came out better than I expected.Image

Last part of this project arrived at door step today, Kendrick black frame 8, 4ohm speaker, 1st thing I noticed is it's much heavier than the original, and appears larger, but is 8 inches.Image
