Yeah, I don't mind giving him the slight edge in the deal, it's a family member, so I'll always have the convenience of trading back if I'm unhappy, so technically I have nothing to lose. My biggest problem is that although I have a Bandmaster Reverb head, I'm playing it through a Marshall Vintage 1960B cab, loaded with Vintage 30s, which I don't feel is a proper reflection of the amp's tone and I don't really have the funds to get a proper cabinet, a Super takes care of that issue automatically. If I'm ultimately unhappy, I'll just swap back and be exactly where I am now

I know that an AB165 Bassman sounds pretty tasty with a 1960B cab so I'm not so sure that your BMR isn't doing precisely what it's suppose to. Such a combination is not Fender's standard sonic formula due primarily to the nature of the V30 speaker but I've played such rigs before and always found them pleasing. Another issue of consideration is the type of enclosure and their audio properties. The sealed-back 1960B is somewhat directional with pronounced low- and mid-frequencies while the Super Reverb's four 10's sound brighter and punchier in the open-back box. If the latter favors your playing style and musical preference then the proposed swap is to your benefit. Best bet would be to arrange a side-by-side A/B comparison to determine which amp works most efficiently for you.

khai123, think that you'll find the SR takes to pedals, very nicely. Maybe, better than the BMR. Those four tens interact in a unique way. Clean with a touch of harmonics.

I have a 68 Bassman, for a long time my set up was a TV Yellow LP Special into the Bassman and then The Marshall cab, I was into Social D pretty heavy lol Anyways, the three tones that I'm hoping to achieve with the Super Reverb are 1. The Undertones, clean tone on Family Entertainment, Wednesday Week, etc and 2. American Football, Never Meant etc and 3. X... Los Angeles, Once Over Twice, New World, when distorted. I think the Super's gonna handle it better. If you're familiar with these than you could also get an idea of which would be a better fit. Thanks for your input Arjay.

+1

Especially so if the Super Reverb's speakers are the original CTS alnico's.

From the pictures of the amp, I believe that it does contain the CTS Alnico speakers, with a circular sticker, but the classic square magnet. The pictures aren't HD or super close up, but the Alnicos are recognizable speakers that stand out from the rest that were used over the years

If that be the case, the speakers will resemble these......

The frame color might be silver but black lacquer and plum bronze have also been observed through the years. The latter two examples are usually seen with the square "Fender Special Design" decal.

Nice! It definitely has CTS alnico speakers, then. Great news there!

My SR has CTS alnico speakers. So does 1971 VLR. Note the style Fender Special Design Speaker sticker.

The speakers look exactly the same, but the sticker is circular rather than square.

You are going to like these speakers. And yes, they are worth re-coning, if necessary.

Good luck with the "new" amp! :D

If reconing is a need, my tech Uncle Spot is a wizard when it comes to reconing, so I'd be in excellent hands were that the case :D I'll be picking up the amp this weekend and I'll be sure to give my impressions 1st thing Monday! I'll give it the "full test" all weekend :)

I have a 1969 SR with CTS alnico speakers and I love it. The amp sounds great at 4 but man when I bring it to 6, get out of the way, I mean get out of the way, total love. Any louder you need to go outside or you will really hurt yourself. I don't go to 6 for a long time or when I do I use ear protection

I think it's funny when I read people talk about how loud Fender's are, excluding the ever ear raping Twin, most Fenders are actually pretty tame to me. I got started on tube amps with a 1978 Marshall Super Lead, 100 watts into a V30 filled 4x12, so in comparison a Super is loud, but it doesn't move the foundation of my house xD
