Hey Guys,

I recently became an owner of a SilverFace Fender Twin Reverb .
Problem is that the speakers are really bad so the last days i've spent all my time reading speaker reviews and stuff.

The speakers being coupled with Fender Twins as i've seen in my research time are :

Jensen C12K (From the reissue verbs)
EVM - 12L (a bit pricey for me)
Eminence Delta 12A (Lots of people say it's a good speaker , im kinda leaning towards it)
JBL (i found a pair priced at 500euros... OMG)
Eminence CommonWealth (JBL clone, but for some reason not used so much)
WGS ET65 (Many people like those)
WGS 12C (Jensen style)
WGS 12C/s (12C but "Soft Cone" lots of people don't trust those for some reason or there are a lot of misconceptions about the "soft" word and how the speaker reacts at highs and lows)

Im sure there are more and more but i only managed to research those speakers.

The tone that im looking for is destined for Post Rock , much like Explosions in the sky.Im affraid that with very harsh speakers when im playing with delays the attack of the guitar is going to be completely "out of the speaker" and im looking for a more unified but clean deep sound.

So people say Delta's are mellow and deep , i saw they can handle near 50~~Hz they are destined for PA systems anyways but still a midrange driver and given the price ill say once more that im leaning towards them.

The amp is going to be in the studio all the time for recordings, so i thought why not give myself some flexibility and add a different speaker in the Twins cab instead of having 2 Deltas.

So im looking for a good Delta match , things i am concerned are:

-I don't want to kill the amps sound just to have 2 speakers for close MICing , i want it to play good :)

-When recording the Amp , How is the other speaker going to affect the cab, for example Delta handles the bass really nice from what ive read , not really as a guitar speaker which kinda muds the bass around 100Hz , Is this "mud" going to affect the recording and ruin the Delta bass?

Please if you know of a speaker pair or 2 different speakers that don't include Deltas (but are not too pricey - meaning i can spend arround 200$ for 2 speakers) , Feel more than free to say it here, Also because i haven't heard any of these speakers im open to any comments on possible misconceptions i have about them.

Please give your answers judged by the music style (deep , atmospheric , reverbs , delays )
and the amp use which is a studio amp for good recordings. Good recordings come first in consideration.

Thanks in advance for your time and answers :)

Michael

We'd need to know a little bit more about your amp and how hard you intend to drive it. Early silverfaces were rated for 85 watts, those built from 1971 through 1977 made 100, while the final production run produced 135 watts.

The first two iterations of the Twin Reverb would do well with Celestion Vintage 30's, based on the sonic criteria you've outlined. You'd need something a little sturdier for the 135-watt model, perhaps a pair of Eminence's contemporary offerings (I'm thinking Tonker or Redcoat).

Tho' they took a lot of crap on many forums, I kinda liked the re-issue Jensen C12K's when they came out on the re-issue Twins-they do take a long time to break in, however, and can therefore frequently be picked up on the cheap-at least here in the U.S. I think I paid $90/pair for the last set I bought from an impatient guy.
I don't have experience with all of these speaks mentioned, but the WGS ET65 reminds me of the speakers Eminence made for Mesa in the '70's/'80's, so if you like that...
The JBL 120's are great, but super heavy, and very pricey! Same with the E/V's, tho' you can still get new ones- they are louder and darker sounding, and just as heavy. You may need to re-enforce your baffle board if using these. JMO, HTH. O...

Thank you all for your answers, i listened to et65 , found them a bit dry and "empty"? Good frequencies tho.

Deltas sound a bit fuller and closer to my tastes, cause as i mentioned i don't really want to throw licks with presence and small decay...

So no word for deltas right?

The amp is 100 watt range not the 85 one if this helps...
