I'm looking for what glue to use for tolex that has lifted on a few corners on my Dad's amp? It's a 65 Vibrolux Reverb. Would contact cement be the best?
Thanks.

I prefer DAP liquid adhesive, in the red-label can.

Use outdoors only, for adequate ventilation. It will take several days for the glue to fully out-gas. You might leave the cabinet in your garage so the odor can fully dissipate.

I'd have to wait until Spring to be able to let it vent. -30 here right now so outside is not an option and I don't have a garage.

For lifted corners or edges, I prefer Goop Automotive. It is strong, but stays flexible, so the edge will never lift again.

You need very little. I lift the edge slightly and using a toothpick, spread a tiny amount of Goop back into the seam, allow to set for 2 minutes, then press the edge/corner down and using either tape or a ruler and spring clamps, clamp the work for 30 minutes.

If any oozes out of the seam, you can pull/rub it off with your finger like you would with rubber cement. The repair will last 'forever' and there are no toxic fumes to worry about.

cheers!

I do many complete tolex recovering and repair.

Best and easy is water base contact glue . Dos not mater if you put to more glue on tolex . When dry you can remove easily just with your finger or piece of cloth . It peal . it come off.

Light sanding on old tolex may help , you must remove if too much old glue or dirt .

I use Lepage

Carpenter glue work good too .
