Tried to google some info, and though many people have tried the 2x10" configuration, but I wondered if this was an option for quicker break up at lower volumes.

I'm currently running my 67' DR at about 5, which is where it breaks up. 9/10 clubs thats way too loud. I have a plexiglas shield but thats not really doing it. I have an attenuator which is helping a lot.

I like 10" speakers a lot. I have a 67' SR as well, and it sounds great (the 3 times I had the 80 foot stage required ;)

I know the quick answer is "why not just get a Princeton?" Because then Id have to go buy one, vintage models are expensive, and its yet another amp to house.

I was thinking with a different baffle board, it would be cool to be able to switch in/out.

Anyone have any experience with this? Is it a terrible idea? how come?

Two by 10-inch would be a great way to go. There are several very good 10-inch speaker types available. For new made... the Weber 10A125 is good. For vintage, the CTS alnico and the Chicago made Jensen C10Q or P10Q come to mind. I like vintage alnico speakers just for the reason you stated. They usually have a warmer tone and break-up sooner than equivalent ceramic magnet speakers, of the same wattage rating.

I have not played through a cab loaded with CTS ceramic 10-inchers. But, several ppl on this board have this speaker and love it.

Cool

I know many folks have tried the 2x10" option. From what I've read, it breaks up earlier, but is still generally loud when it does.

I wondered if there is any info on just 1x10" ?

Why not build an adapter for your existing baffle board and stick a ten in there?

About ten bucks in materials and an hour's time ought to do it.
