Hi everyone

Was wondering if anyone had any info on what kind of speaker this is. Its from a pretty all original 67' Blackface Deluxe Reverb (chassis, tube sticker, transformers, all date properly 66-67)

I think its an Oxford based on similar looking baskets..

I don't really want to pull the Fender sticker off, but otherwise I have given it a thorough going over. I noticed that the positive/negative terminals seem to be straight off the basket (as opposed to the terminal strip you normally see...)

There were some light numerals on the paper cone:

written in white pencil: 10365
Printed in white on the cone: RW404 (or FW404 hard to tell)
beneath the white print, in grey read 042W16006

Speaker looks to be in good shape, could be a redone, but I have no idea.

Nothing anywhere to be seen on the basket in terms of standard speaker codes, etc.

I'm betting that Utah made that speaker -- the proof would be the EIA code which is likely concealed beneath the blue-and-white Fender "donut". If visible it would be formatted thus: "328XXX". A Fender P/N of "014827" might also be present. The Utah driver is the sonic and functional equivalent of an Oxford 12K5.

Will pulling off the sticker lower the speakers value?

Is there a way to do this without wrecking the speaker?

Thanks

IMHO, the Utah speakers of this era were nothing really special. I would just leave the speaker and labels alone. The label intact, will prolly increase the value of the speaker.

Here's a link to a 1970's ad for Utah Speakers (instrument). See if one of these seem to fit your model.

Yeah, I hear you on that.

My issue is that I can't date it, which though I don't intend to sell, kid of bugs me. I can't honestly say 'all original' as I can't date the speaker....

Might have to just accept that though.

My WAG on that is the speaker is a late 1960-1970's issue. Fender started using more Utah speakers during this era.

In mid-year 1969, Utah began using this label style on all of their speakers destined for Fender amps......
