I am looking at two different amplifiers, a 71 blackfaced SFTR and an 82 Concert. In general, How to the clean channels stack up to each other. I will be playing both next week, but they are a fairly wide geography apart and am wondering if I should bother with the Concert at all. I play primarily blues/blues rock, 1972 Strat.

Most important , did you know if these amps see a qualified tech for good tune up ?

They may need new filter caps , bias check and adjust ......

Both sellers, one is a reputable guitar shop and the other is an individual, said they had them recapped and checked in the last year. I could open them up, but I would not know what I am looking at. The Concert if from the private seller. The SF is about $300 more.

I have a Concert (the 2x10 version) from '84 (bought new) that was my go to gigging amp for quite a while. It is a very versatile amp, the clean channel has the classic Fender clean, and the second channel (Switchable via the footswitch) has a nice grit and has a cascaded pre-amp to it. The reverb works on both channels, and the mid boost is a nice addition. You do have to live without Fender's classic tremolo, but there is a really great adjustable effects loop. The effects loop also has a nice trick, if you plug a short chord from the input to output, you get an extra gain stage that is adjustable.

Both amps are well built so that is a tie, and both are easily serviced as both use a board inside for mounting of all the electronics. The Concert only has 60 watts, but I never needed more than that. I play blues/rock, and really do like this amp for that application.

Hope this information helps in the decision. Try both amps, but do give the Concert an honest evaluation and see if you like it's versatility.

Stu T...sounds like your going about the amp choice the right way...enjoy the hunt!

Be aware the quality, reliability, and ease of servicing of the Concert and Twin is MUCH better than the Blues Deluxe. The Blues Deluxe is not badly built, it is just the other two were built in a different era of quality. Just something to consider.
