I hate to be bugging this forum with all the threads but I'm relatively new to tearing apart these vintage amps. I have a 1956 Champ amp that has unfortunately received an 8" speaker from a newer Fender from 1969 according to the markings. I'm attempting to sell this amp. Without going into details on how much this is worth, I am asking advice on if it would be worth it to try to return it to stock. Hopefully hunt down a stock 1956 speaker and figure out what to do with the baffle and then try to sell it. Or just leave it alone and take the hit on it. Thanks.

The speaker has a lot to do with the value of the amp. A period correct speaker would certainly go a long way, but you might have a lot of trouble finding one.

However, a lot of "collectors" and players alike will remove the original speaker and install a modern speaker as to preserve the original. They'll box the original away and insert it later when they re-sell the amp. So trying to find a period correct speaker might not be that advantageous if you are selling the amp. I'd probably just let the buyer find the replacement. And depending on the buyer, they might not care that the speaker is original and may want to insert their own replacement - such as a modern Jensen or Weber or whatever is their favorite.

If I were you, I'd price the amp as if it had the correct speaker and let the market determine the final selling price. There could be a buyer out there that cares less or already has a vintage speaker looking for an amp. :D

After I posted this I realized just how hard it was to find this speaker. It was originally a 6" speaker. I'm getting offers of less than half of what the amp is "normally" worth. My Twin Reverb amp is in that same situation but that amp has a very strange speaker in it so I figured it would be worth a lot less. This amp has me a little surprised. I'm just going to leave the speaker the way it is. Thanks.

Prolly a Cleveland speaker if it's 6-inch. Look like this one?

I believe the speaker in it now is 8". It has the blue Fender sticker on the back, but looks like the speaker you have pictured, only in 8".
