I tried to identify the amp but it has become somewhat difficult because it lacks any markings to indicate it's age. I am guessing it is either a ~1975 amp or a ~1990 version but I am not entirely sure.

I can give further information if needed.

Hi there! Welcome to the Forum. :)

There should be a stamped number on the back side of the chassis. This, and any photos of the numbers on the transformers, speakers, potentiometers --- will help ID the specific dates.

Stamped number on chassis:

The Twin Reverb in question is more than likely a 80 or 81. IIRC it was around 1980 that Fender reverted back the blackface look albeit with slightly different font in both style and font. It might be as late as early 82, but likely no newer than that.

My guess is also 1981. From the reverb tranny: 606-116:

606 = Schumacher.

116 = 1981, 16th week.

-----

From Speaker: 1098116:

1098 = Pyle.

116 = 1981, 16th week.

Fender made some retro-blackface panels during this era, with different fonts. And also used Pyle speakers. Utah speakers became Pyle, during the late 1970's. AFAIK.

Thanks guys. I am almost certain it is a 1981 model now. I found some alternative online resources that match what you have said. The official Fender page does not have any info on the F1 serial numbering

http://www.guitarrepairbench.com/guitar ... umber.html

I found this site has some serials staring with F;
http://www.superiormusic.com/page195.htm

I was very confused about this AMP because if you blind folded me I would have thought it was a silver face sound. Which appears to match what happened with the 1981 models they were cosmetically a Black Face AMP but had silver plate technology of sound.

In any case I can get some really nice tones from the AMP, but I have had a few problems with it lately. I will now be able to search for parts and people to fix it. Thanks!

You welcome!

What kinda problems are you having with the amp? This is a Master Volume, ultra-linear 135-watt Twin Reverb. It should be LOUD! :lol:

Heavy as well. I've worked on one of these in my "basement" shop and my back hurts just thinking about it.

So are you saying that it is a Silver face amp with a cosmetic Black Face?

From the comments section on the Ampwares website:

"Fender switched back to the blackface era cosmetics some time in 1980. Twin Reverbs produced between late 1980 and 1982 have a black control panel and silver sparkle grille cloth."

http://ampwares.com/amplifiers/fender-silverface-twin-reverb/

So yes, this is a silver face amp with black face cosmetics.
