This higher voltage rated Sprague made cap is now available from AES. It is BIG. But, does fit under a typical Fender amp doghouse. I just ordered some --- haven't used one, yet. They are very $$$ ($20 each). So, I would used them in the first stage of DR or maybe the 20mfd stage after the main dual-70mfd/350VDC stage.

Found this out from a DIY amp board.

Just an FYI...

At 3.9 inches long, it doesn't seem like they would fit lengthwise. I think the width of a doghouse cover is about 3.5 inches, but I'm not at home to be able to measure.

It being Thanksgiving, I'd like to wish everyone Happy Thanksgiving, and express my thanks to all the posters here for the education about vintage Fender amps and how to repair them. :)

Regards

Here's the truth I found out, from a DIY board.

This isn't one cap, but two caps in series with a paper wrapping over both. Two 40mfd/300VDC caps soldered back-to-back, with no leveling resistors.

Might was well do this yourself with two 40mfd caps and put in two leveling 220k-ohm 2-watt resistors. Put them side-by-side, with resistors underneath. I'm sure that would fit under the doghouse. Maybe, a bit clumsy looking.

I just may try this on my SFDR and Vibrolux. As they put out around 450-460VDC. Kinda close to the 500VDC rating of one cap. Esp when you consider high-voltage turn-on transients.

To all: Happy Turkey Day!!!
