The other day I missed out on what looked like a great opportunity to buy and amp. After I finished kicking myself I moved on and found another nice one on ebay. With 20 minutes remaining my winning bid was no more and the current bid was beyond what I wanted to spend.

Feeling bummed I was contemplating on whether or not I should increase my bid. So on a whim I checked Craigslist one more time (been searching daily) before I placed my bid. There she was! Could it be? The ad was less than 12 hours old. Was she still available? Yes she was! I drove an hour to the sellers house. Spent another half hour playing it. Man does this amp sound good.

It has an assortment of tubes in it. Electro Harmonix power tubes, Sovtek, Tungsol, Jan Philips, EHX and an unmarked one labels 12AT7 in the pre-amp. The seller also threw in some spare tubes.

I ended up picking her up for $850. Considering what these babies are going for on eBay I think I got a pretty good deal.

Nice pickup! May need to go through the main power supply caps.

BTW... the 12AT7 and 12AX7 are a combination of GE (acid etched dots on tube) and RCA. The "Made in Italy" 6V6GT is a Russian made 6N6C.

The amp is prolly a 1980 vintage. From serial number and date stamps on transformers.

Good luck with the new amp! :)

Thanks BMW. The seller said it was a 1980. Getting ready to go play it in a few. 8)

Sweet score!

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I pulled the pan and conducted a visual inspection of the caps as BMW suggested. From what I can see the caps look ok. Pics below. I also swapped the various 12AX7s that were installed with some JJ ECC83s I had lying around. The amp sounds a lot fuller when driven while still maintaining those pristine fender cleans.

Outstanding! Looks pretty clean inside and out...nice score! Enjoy playing it.

Those caps look like they are originals IIRC.

Those are the original Mallory filter caps. Dated 1980, 31st week. You may want to consider putting in new caps, esp if you are going to crank this puppy. Or gig with it.

One other thing... please check that the correct Slo-Blo fuse is in the amp.

Good luck with the new find!

I don't gig but I will definitely check the fuse. I really appreciate the tips and advice.

As far as cranking it goes, I am waiting for the wife to leave the house. This amp is loud @ 4!
