Is it normal for a speaker with a aluminum dust cap to make a squeaky "zing" sound when you play high notes? (Volume at 5-6 in a 40 watt amp, controls at 6-7 with bright switch)..

My old speaker with a felt dustcap did not do this in this amp..

And yes, i have tried turning the bright switch off, and finkering with the controls, but the sound is still present.

Sounds like the cap's glue has dried out a bit. If you lightly touch the cap during those high notes, do you feel the vibes associated with the "zing?" Maybe, a tiny bit of contact glue between the cap and the cone?

Good luck!

I have read about re-applying some adhesive at the cap.. But it's hard to search for this particular problem on google.

Between the cap and the cone, you say.. Do you mean just on the edge of the cap where it touches the cone, or do you mean taking out the cap, and reapply the adhesive again?

I have done recones before, so i know what i am doing it that's the case.

Yes, I'd put a thin line of Elmer's glue-all (or silicone sealer) on the contact point between the dust cap and the cone.
