I've read everywhere that pre-1968 the Pro reverbs were blackface with the AA165 tube configuration but my amp is a silverface with a tube configuration sticker with AA165 printed on it along with the letters QF which dates to June 1967 according to fenders dating guidelines. It also says production 48 on the tube configuration sticker. Could it really be a 1967?

Also, the amp sounds very good others than the ridiculous amount of background noise. It sounds like an oscillating whistling noice with a tiny bit of fuzz. Is this normal?

Dunno about that blackface versus silverface issue. The whistling noise sounds like a noisy 12AX7 or 12AT7. Try contact cleaner on the pins and sockets. Re-insert a few times to work the cleaner into the contact surfaces.

Hope that works. If not, you prolly need a new tube. Rotate a known good tube into each position, one-by-one, and see if you can isolate the bad tube(s).

If the tubes aren't the issue, it could be the main filter caps. When were they last replaced?

There were many silverface amps from '67, and double-check your circuit, as the tube charts don't always show the correct circuit.

Generally, the cutover from Blackface to Silverface Amps began after March of '67.

In many models, only the cosmetics were changed for the first year or so.

My Blackface Deluxe is a '67 - Date code QA (Jan. '67). It is one of the last 300 produced.

The first Silverface Deluxe Reverb (the Deluxe had been retired from the lineup) was produced in April '67.

cheers!
