Hey Folks,
This SF Deluxe works good but there is a low volume static noise.
That's with no guitar plugged in.
With all controls at zero.
Switched pre amp tubes and still the same.
Any ideas?
Thanks folks!

Test it with no cell phone , no PC , no halogen lamp , no neon lamp , no electrical motor ...all these thing could generate some static .

Did you house have a good ground at wall outlet ?

Try on another room or house

Try a little contact cleaner on the control pots (volume, tone, reverb, vibrato controls). The pins and sockets. The input jacks. I like Caig Deoxit GN5.

Good luck!

Sorry,
I should have given more details...
Yes, I cleaned all the sockets, sanded all the tube pins
with 600 grit silicon paper. All good.
And, yes sprayed cleaned the pins and sockets and all the
control pots.
Cell phones and lamps are not the problem as well.
My shop is on 50v circuits and grounded very well.
I didn't say all this as a smart $@!!
Hope no one takes offense.
Thanks Folks!!

No matter how well grounded your circuits may be, there is always some noise inherent in the system. Line Conditioning may be what you need.

I live in a Condo, and while very well grounded, if neighbors are using vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, blow dryers, etc., the noise does intrude on our isolated circuits to the point where the noise is picked up by my tube amps.

Line Conditioners come in many sizes and prices ranging from $100 to $1000+.

I found this gizmo and it works great in eliminating any line noise produced by neighbors or the power company. Cheap, simple solution for me, maybe for you too !

Lightnin MN,
I appreciate your input.
This is the only amp I have had on my bench that has done like this.
The only other noisy amp was the Hot Rod Deville.
So anyway I am going to re-tighten the pre amp tubes and then try again.
The only way to stop the noise is to remove either V3 or V4.....but those are
part of the reverb circuit.
Onward!!

What is that " on 50 volts circuits " ?

Static noise ...Could it be a white noise , hiss , because amp need new plate resistor on all tube ?

Olds plate resistors are often noisy ,it is more a hiss than static .

Just a stab.
You said Silverface. Have the electrolytes been checked/changed?

+1 stratele52

This sounds very likely. Get rid of the CC Plate resistors and screen grid resistors and use some good flame-proof resistors.

Folks,
Sorry I made a typo on my shop description.
50 amp breakers..well grounded.
I have replaced the CC's with MO resistors.
All tubes have been switched out..not the problem.
The electrolytic supply caps are new.
Removed and cleaned the pins on the GZ34 with 600
grit silicon sand paper...again and the socket as well.
Seems like this made a big difference....so far.
This is a SF Deluxe Reverb. AB763 circuit.
Today I will light it up again and see if it's still quiet.
I will let everyone know.
Thanks folks and have a good weekend.
Cold here in Oklahoma.

Hey Folks,
Did more checking of the reverb circuit.
Found that the 25ufx25uf@25v was bad on one leg.
Replaced it and amp is now as it should be.

stratele52, sorry I didn't make it clear about which
SF Deluxe I was working on.
Thanks very much!
