Found this at the local pawnshop!

This particular one is not my picture, but it looks exactly the same!

I knew that this was a bass-cabinet with a unknown 15 inch speaker, and took a stab at it.

Why?
I always have wondered what my amps would sound like with a 15 inch speaker. ESPECIALLY with my Fender Blues Deluxe.

Being what i am, i decided to take it apart even before i had tested it. I was curious about what the speaker would be. I almost knew it would be really, really nice - since the cab weighed a ton! I was hoping for something good. Was holding my thumbs for a JBL or a EV speaker.

Unscrewed the speaker, and flipped it around to see what it was..

Score. EVM 15L.

Patted myself on the back, and took a brake.

What i really want to know is, what year was the speaker made?

Here's the codes i found on the cone:

007 79842

Sweet find!
The speaker code should be on the metal basket rim, not the cone.

The cabinet itself is a "silver badge" so it will be pre-1980, but the speaker could be different.

You can get some good info on the speaker codes here:
http://www.webervst.com/codes.html

And, a wealth of info on the old Music Man amps and cabinets here:
http://www.pacair.com/mmamps/

Try posting more photos of anything on the basket.

Look for another set of digital codes on the speaker. Electro-Voice EIA code = 649. There should be a code 649-YYW(W). Where YY = last two digits of the year. Could be the last digit. And WW = week of production in that year.

I supposed the manufacturer date code could be 027. As in 1980, 27th week. The stamp on the magnet has "Electro-voice, Inc." Just a WAG.

...it has all the schematics, all the service bulletins, manuals, sales catalogs, price lists, and a small but active message board with a knowledgeable group of users. Considering these amps have not been manufactured in 30 years...that's pretty good. Wouldn't hurt to post the question over there. Click the button that says "New Site" or try...
