Hello, I am new to the fender forum. I currently own a fender twin reverb and was trying to date it and Fender says that after 606- on the transformer dates the year, and I have heard most sliverface amps began in 1968. Im not sure if this is correct, but after 606- on my amp it says 3 which would mean it was from 1963. This is why i am unsure if this is really a 1963 silverface. Any help would be appreciated, thank You.

The 3 after 606 does mean the year, but only the last part of the year.
For example 606-3xx could be 63,73,etc.
Being a silverface it's not a 63.
More info on the amp would help identify the year.
Bob

Thanks for the reply, I am confused on telling if the amp is a silver face or a blackface, is it considered a silverface if the plate where all the controls and vloumes are is silver? Or is based on the front grillcloth? If it is the front grillcloth it is black thank you for the help

Yes Silverface vs. Blackface does refer to faceplate, but the grill cloth is also different. On some circuits there was very little differences initially on Silverface amps, so yes they can be taken back to Blackface specs and that may be were your confusion starts.

There has been a steady progression from the Woodies, to Tweeds, to Brownface, then Blonde, to Blackface, then Silverface, then it kind of goes all over the place with the start of the "Red Knob" amps. A great source of the History of Fender Amps is the "Soul of Tone", a fine well written book with nice photo work of all the different amps.

Silverface refers to the faceplate (where the control knobs are mounted to).
The twin reverbs were silverface starting in 1967 or 68. Since your amp has a transformer code of 606-3, it wouldn't be a 1963. More likely 1973.
