Damn 5 or 6 on a Twin, respect :) My Bandmaster at 3 starts rattling the windows already. I need a bigger room. Glad it turned out to be easy fix.

It seems that the fix is usually easier than finding the cause but it's fun getting there.

I think 3 on a twin is deafening but he's more of a Thorogood guitar player and I'm more a Bob Bogle player. To each his own.

You're on the vibrato channel :)

Yeah, Bob Bogle, I'm really dating myself with that. :D
Although I do like to do some Thorogood now and then.

Well I checked all the resistors and they were all within specs.

Bob

And pots ? Are they in spec ? That's the thing to do !

I checked the resistance from gnd to the wiper. (vibrato channel)
Volume at 2=130 ohms
volume at 3=25K

After cleaning the pots:
volume at 2=600 ohms
volume at 3=50k

The normal channel had slightly higher resistances.
I don't know how normal these readings are but since the volume is slightly better, my guess would be that the pots are worn yes?

Vibrato pot have nothing to do here . We talk about volume pot on each channel
Volumes pots should read 1 Meg ohms , alls reading with no wires connected to the pots . Each side of the pot

If you check resistor in circuit , has you write before , ohms reading might be wrong too.

I understand you don't have any skill in electronics ,all test you do may be wrong .
Better to bring the amp to a qualified tech

[/b]:D I guess my post was more confusing than I meant it to be.

I did measured the resistance of the VOLUME pot. It was in the vibrato CHANNEL.

I should have stated that the total resistance across the pot with all wires disconnected is about 1.2M.
Before I cleaned the pots, the resistance was jumping all over as the volume pot was increased.

However, now that I cleaned the Volume pots the resistance change is more smooth as the volume pot is increased. The volume pot also reads more resistance with the volume at 1 & 2.
Therefore, my problem is solved. I now have sound when the volume is below 3.

Sorry about my confusing post. I find it difficult sometimes getting my point across.
But the good thing is, the volume is working now since I cleaned the volume pots.

Thank you for your input it got me looking at the simple things that are usually where the problem is.
Bob

I understand better what you mean now and I think you do a good job .

Higher volume pot value is better than lower.
