Selling a '67 AB165 Blackface Bassman w/ 2-12 original cabinet, all original I thought. Thumbscrews for head and feet on short sides of cabinet. Buyer asked me if the logo position had been changed because Fender piggyback amps usually have the head on top of the long side? Googled "Images of Blackface Bassman" and it's about 50/50.
Anyone have an idea which is politically correct?

IMO buyer is right , are you sure of the year ? Some picture of the head and cab would help . I'm looking in the book " Fender Amps , the first fifty years , page 76

It should look a bit like this! This is how they came from the Fender Factory. If the logo is on the cab different from this, then the owner moved it...period!

Could be original. Check the Fender Field Guide (http://www.thevintagesound.com/ffg/) for black face Bassman. Fender did offer a 2 x 12 upright cabinet in 67.

That is NOT an original 2x12 Bassman cab. A single pic vs the books and catalogs from the era do not support that being original. They did offer an upright 2x12 cab, but that would be a silverface cab, but that would have the drip edge molding.

Not to argue, but if post some pics of your amp, we might be able to tell you if it appears to be all original...because with Fender you can never totally say never happened but those rare exceptions would have to be documented before anyone should accept their bona fides.

Amp is AB165 Blackface with 2X12 cabinet with 2 – JBL D120F speakers. Tube chart is intact with ink stamped QC for '67 March production. All of the transformers have ’66 date codes. All CTS pots have ’66 &‘67 date codes. This amp was abandoned in 1975 at the DTA Talent Agency in Manhattan, Ks in lieu of agency fees. It did not work and has not been played until I found a bad solder joint on a ground to chassis on August 16, 2014.
5 minutes work and this bad boy awakes from a 39 year nap or longer.

I still think this is a silver face large 2x12 cab because it has had the grill cloth changed. You can tell by the wrinkles in the cloth, and the fact that the cloth is not straight...they don't come from Fender that way.

Got any pics of the inside of the cab? There should be a black ink stamped date code on the inside of the cabinet, and if the speakers are original they might give us some more dates to go by to help date the cab. Also is looks like the mount for the logo is wood colored (hard to tell for sure) and it should be black like the baffle board.

Again a '67 Bassman should look nearly identical to my '66, with a slightly larger cab, that cab looks huge. Either way I am betting those JBL's sound pretty good pushed by that head. One last thing, might want to give the chassis a once over and replace the electrolytic caps and anything else out of spec...its due after all these years.

Stratele52...we can drop it, he was just looking to sell it...see his Fleabay ad!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/67-Fender-bassm ... 27ed9ab294

The cab looks to be genuine Fender, but it is not a Bassman cab, it is just too big and in 67 they didn't make a tall 2x12 Bassman cab. And of course we never heard back on the inked stamped date on the inside of the cab either.
