Hello, all.

I recently purchased a 1973 Silverface Vibrolux Reverb. All original with the oxford speakers, foot switch, even had old RCA tubes in it.
Here's my problem: the first week I had it, I had to have it cranked to 8-9 to even be heard at band practice. I chalked it up to the inefficient oxfords and the old RCA tubes. Got a new tube set from http://www.vintagefenderamprepair.com, biased the amp and got a WGS G10C and G10C/S, which are pretty efficient speakers. Still not enough output. I have a silverface Princeton Reverb, which is 12 watts, and on three it's louder and much fuller than my 40 watt Vibrolux reverb on 6-7. Any idea what may be causing this? It's driving me nuts and I just want this amp to come alive the way I know it can.

Did the SF VLR ever have its main PSU filter caps replaced? Sounds like the amp needs a going over by a good tech.

Congrats on the amp. You'll really like it, once it is running up-to-par.

What do you mean about " new set of tubes " ?
All 12XX7 tubes + 6L6's ? Or just 6L6's

Need check voltages too . Low voltage = low output .

If you are badlucky it could be a bad Output Transformer

I was thinking it may be the filter caps. Just wanted to get a second opinion before I delve too deep with it. I don't mind putting some money into it. I got it for a steal ($700) considering where I am in the Mid Atlantic region, I see them going for no less than 1k.

Voltages check is a must if you are sure all tubes are good .
It is not because they are new they are good .

Before Output transformer , many thing must be check before .

Voltages ,
Phase inverter circuit .......
