Pretty simple question...for a 20 watt head would you get a 14, 16, or 18 gauge cord?
MercMag has well-made cords but if a CPU cord from the GOODWILL does the job just as well...I'm not proud.
Now, there's enough nastiness happening in the world currently, so if you find this to be a stupid question...I think the world would forgive you if you kept that to yourself. Still your choice.
Thanks all!

Three-wire AWG18 will be adequate for the task. Be sure to solidly affix the ground conductor to the chassis (a mounting screw for the power transformer is ideal).

The gentleman posting the "+1" to my response is one of this forum's most respected amp techs and is merely reaffirming his confidence in and concurrence with my advice. Amplifier servicing and maintenance carries with it the certainty that one embarking upon such endeavors will be exposed to potentially-lethal voltages. In other words, we who dispense such advice wear "big-boy pants" when the subject is electronics and personal safety may be at stake. And those of us who offer that assistance generally rely on one another to critique our accuracy so anybody with a question receives a competent response.

Aside from a snarky attitude, what -- precisely -- do you bring to the discussion at hand?

Do I sense a touch of irony?

OK, back to power cords. 18AWG is fine for most small-to-moderate sized amps. Big amps that use a lot of wattage prolly need bigger gauge cords. Or if the length from the amp to the wall outlet is far (and you are not using appropriate extension cords).
