I got antsy and decided to build my 2nd 5E3 based on a Doug Hoffman turret board I have ordered it and received the board and used some parts I have along with some other I ordered. Dry fit for now and I will order more as cash flow allows. This will be a longer build because I didn't order a whole kit. May even build the cab or con my son into it. Also maybe doing a 6G3 too.

Love your "shop supervisor".

He seems to be quite content with your work.

She is always watching. She has to know where I am all the time! Some times she blocks the doorway and calls in help.

I built a couple 5E3 tweeds last year. It was a lot of fun.
I did change the grounding to reduce a minor hum problem I had.
Rather than a long ground buss, I separated the preamp ground from the power amp ground. I brought them together at a star ground on the chassis. It wasn't a Hoffmen, so I don't know how yours is laid out.
I would recommend an OT with a single output rather than the multitap. They have larger wire and can saturate the bass easier. We used the stock Fender 125A1A .
We used Weber speakers.
They were so happy with theirs that it looks like I'm gonna build another one soon.

I ground my Power cord at closest trannie bolt, the 1st two filters and Bias are grounded with the 3 tab terminal and 100 ohm resistors from the pilot. I solder a buss to the back of the pots for the rest. Same as the 1st one I built and is dead quiet. Last ground to the Input Ground.

Here is the complete board with most components soldered. Ends where I want to insert wires for the chassis wiring were left unsoldered and also the big caps so I can pull them to clamp the board to chassis to transfer mounting holes. Nothing is on the bottom side, all wires are on top. Makes repairs and mods easier in the future. I do not have to worry about underside connects falling off when replacing a part.

Just finished moving and maybe now I can get back to building. My son has also got more work and he is contributing more to our expenses at the house. Hope it continues so I can put more into my building fund!

I got back on the build project. Bought a table saw and some Dado Cutters and have almost completed my cabinet.

Thank You, Arjay! It is my very first cabinet build ever! Made a few mistakes and learned a lot. I have a couple more to do. 6G3 and a 2x12.

Speaker enclosures are a snap compared to a combo cab. There's no "break angle" at the front to worry about and all eight corners are covered by metal protectors which will conceal any errors committed when affixing the Tolex or Nubtex.

Feel free to holler if you get stuck and need some help.

I am just going to put stain/sealer on it. I like natural wood and I don't really want to try covering it. Not confident with that!

It is stained and sealed but I will have to touch up the end grains of some of the finger joints. Also once it hardens good I will sand and maybe clear coat and let it harden then either fine sand or steel wool and polish and buff. Won't happen for a week because I will be away.

Oh tried to play thru it but all I got was silence!
