6L6 will not give you more power , only more clean , no or less breakup .

If heater voltage reading is 6 volts or more , yes the Power Transformer is powerfull enough to put 6L6

If the quest is for more power, you'll need beefier iron for both power supply and output stage. In that instance I'd just recommend starting with a 5F4 Super or 5E5 Pro Amp kit.

No quest for more power. I have 3 6L6 tube amps for that. Just checking out my options and my intention was to build a 6V6 based amp.

If I want to build a 5E3 , I'll build a original 5E3 .

Heater current of 6v6 .45 A versus 6L6 .9 A both at 6.3 V. If the PT can handle the current difference it would work. Mind you this is just discussion and not in the plan. :)

To borrow Greg Koch's saying, it just needs a control that says "More" on it!

The tweed Deluxe Amp has a sonic charm all its own and I never really saw the need for mods from the original design. Which is the reason why I previously mentioned the rectifier circuit.

I agree but I still plan on using what I can that the circuit will allow. That is still working within the parameters of the design. I have never had a 5E3 so I am exploring! So far I like a lot of the videos on uTube showing how to get all the different tones out of a 5E3, impressive! :D

Forum members "Supro" and "Snowy" have both completed 5E3 builds recently. If/when they log in, they'll likely have some ideas that you might wish to try.

I was looking forward to bluesky636's build until he left the forum. He had ordered a kit from Weber and was going to run a thread on the build. I suppose he has it all done and enjoying it by now. It would have been a good informational thread for those like myself to gain knowledge from!

His departure was a great loss to the forum.

All tube need have heater voltage of 6.3 . To know if PT is enough powerful ( for going to 0.9 A or more... ) if you don't know spec , just take a reading on heater voltage with the tube you want to try . Here, the 6L6 , if under 6 volts , don't use these tube , PT is nor enough powerfull.

Been researching. Magnetic Components sells an upgraded power transformer that supplies 5V at 3 A. If ! should burn out the mojotone that only supplies 2 A, I can get the upgrade for $77 and change and run the 5U4GB no problem.

The chassis and parts have been shipped and Fedex site shows a Thursday delivery. Whoo-hoo! I can start the build and use my Avatar cabinet to test it out. 8 ohm Hellatone, don't know how that will sound with a 5E3.

Similar to a Celestion V30 I should think.

It is a re-labeled v30 that Avatar breaks in, Chinese v30.

Which is why I offered the comparison. It won't sound too "Fender-ish" but I don't think it'll sound bad. And as you mentioned, it's only a transient "test speaker".
